The horse gets a jolt with the wire or electric cattle prodder while the person hits the metal feed tub simultaneously.

When they are racing the driver kicks the wheel disks on the sulky to make the same noise to scare the horse into thinking it’s going to get a shock again

That’s one of the reasons drivers get fined for not keeping their feet in the stirrups on the sulky during the race.

It really is sickening. I say they tie him up and shock him - you know just so he knows how it feels. POS. People the commit animal cruelty should be subjected to the same conditions and treatment that they did to the animals.

Horrific!

There was actually something like this in a Dick Francis novel–only worse. A guy used a silent dog whistle and a flame thrower to send the horse into a frenzy. Then had someone else blow the whistle during a race. It backfired when someone else blew a dog whistle at the wrong time.

Yuck.
