Horrific Crash in CA - Jingles Needed

If you’ve heard about the horrid crash in CA where 50± cars were involved, then you might know about this. A friend of mine was on her way back from CA after competing on her up and coming eventer along with 2 of her other horses when they were rear ended by a box truck which killed her main horse. The EMTs had to use the jaws of life to release her other two horses who were seemingly unscathed with minor injuries. The entire back of the trailer was just demolished with the front of the box truck basically in her horse trailer.

Both of her other horses were taken to the vet hospital in Bakersfield for evaluation and her youngster who was in the second stall who didn’t seem too badly injured may have suffered a career ending injury if not worse. They’re working on a treatment plan and will know more later.

Please send some healing jingles to my friend and her horses. It’s every horse owners’ worst nightmare come true. I am just sick about it and my heart aches for her.

I was driving back from Fresno this weekend and people were driving like a$$holes >;(. Made me so angry, especially since I had just heard about the massive car crash on I-5 the day before.

Saw something on Facebook about this yesterday. Believe the horse that was killed was Water Cube (?), the OTTB that Michael Phelps owned and Philip Dutton trained. Sounds.absolutely horrible. RIP.

Sending mega jingles for your friend. Saw some video on the news and it showed the handlers holding the two horses who stood quietly by while a car was in full flames, and helicopter landed to life flight the toddler. Apparently almost everyone was zipping along (most definitely NOT your friend with that huge trailer) when bam, a fogbank eliminated visibility.

It’s just amazing to me that with all the injuries the EMTs worked so hard to free those horses. Can’t thank them enough.

Yes, it was Water Cube (Cubey) but Whitney Spicher owns him although Philip Dutton did do the training. Maybe Michael Phelps owned him before Whitney bought him? Such a cool horse, he was on his way to being a top competitor and was so stinking adorable at eventing camp 2 years ago. My heart hurts.

The Go Fund Me link was posted on the Icabad Crane FB page, and they mentioned Michael Phelps’ prior ownership because people following that page were likely to remember when he first came to PD’s barn for his second career. It had a picture of the damage to the trailer, and it was traumatic just to see the picture, so I can’t even imagine what it was like for her to go through that. So awful to lose a horse that way, it brought tears to my eyes to even think about it when I saw the picture. And so heartbreaking that the horse had gone on to a great second life/second career only to have it end this way

Yes, they are recovering fine. Ballon (not Balloon as I thought lol) is doing great. Whitney has bought a new horse to replace Cubey and is moving past this.
