Horse and Buggy on Track

A grey horse just trotted down the track pulling something that looks like an old doctor’s buggy, in the background while Randy Moss and Jerry Bailey and the other guy are talking about the Wood Memorial runners. I don’t know if the horse was at Santa Anita with them or in New York, but I wish they’d commented on him and the buggy and what that was all about.

Meanwhile I’m backing Final Jeopardy.

Not sure what Santa Anita uses the horses and carriage for (I am assuming you are talking about Santa Anita) but they’ve used this horse and carriage for many years.

The horses and buggy takes officials back and forth as well as a Jack Russell terrier named Lexi up to 2016.

I’m partial to Sally myself.

@Pronzini :smiley:
As a Proud Hoosier, I was thrilled (okay, I thrill easily) to read the carriages are made in Indiana.
I wish they’d listed the name of the carriage maker, as I’m familiar with a couple in the NW, IN Amish & Mennonite community.
My show cart is going to one for modification this week & I’ll be sure to ask if he provides service to Santa Anita :yes:

Also nice to read something positive about the track in light of the recent problems.

They’ve done that for decades. Sometimes even a fancy four in hand, they mixed it up. Might still for big race days like BC., no idea? They used to have a draft team moving the starting gate instead of a tractor too (shires IIRC) but that stopped quite awhile ago. Part of what made SA an experience instead of just another racetrack.

Many years (many :slight_smile: ) I think the carriage is who carried the race officials around the track to climb up the towers (in the days before cameras).
