Mistyblue, perhaps while the dog is laughing its a** off at you while you wield your ferocious whip, you could run away?!?
LOL…that might work.
I’d be covered in welts so the 'after-attack" would look pretty impressive…even if it was self-inflicted.
in my experience!
I’ve used my huntwhip every summer to discourage coyotes! Really!!
Frequently they den up near our ridge or bottom. When the cubs get larger; the parents get VERY defensive & aggressive if you happen to ride near cubs/den/or a kill. They will come at you when trail riding and bark, growl and follow/circle you. This happened more often when I rode with my dog locally. I’ve had them both come at us and as I ride off had one follow me (usually the male) for up to 2 miles. It’s creepy and they can be persistant and hard to drive off.
So in July/Aug I carry my hunt whip and use it as needed. Often catching it on a local tree branch…which is probably REALLY why they follow me…for the entertainment and hope more funnier things will happen as previously described. I’m so there!! I mean, coyotes do have a sense of humor too!!:lol::lol: It makes me feel better or braver and less creeped out. Might only need it once/twice a month. I tie my lash around the handle and wear it criss crossed around my shoulders like a long purse strap. Then it’s outa my hands. What I REALLY want to invent is a flywhisk/huntwhip combination with a staghorn handle to still do gates!!! Hunt whips work on dogs especially when you get the crack sound right!
< never suggested they could physically lock… but the bite was designed so they clamp and keep it that way, vs the straight PSI factor… that was really what I was curious about… actual DESIGN strength and factor of each breeds jaw especially compared to their technical jobs>
next… I loff the idea of a hunt whip, especially in gun fanatical NJ where you have to have a security clearance for the CIA to own one
I’ll have to look into it… I used to practice on my dad’s aussie stock whip… I definitly hurt myself more than once… and I ride a midgit horse. must get short whip… but its totally on the to do list. I love it!
