Hello, after years of planning and a major setback it appears that we are finally moving to the Denver, CO area in spring 2018. We are moving from the sweltering, humid Central Florida area. I, of course, am going to be bringing my almost 17-year-old OTTB ( he will be 17 by the time we go). I am looking for suggestions on boarding.
He is pretty much a pleasure horse now. We use to train Dressage and were a solid 2nd level pair, however, he re-injured his old bowed tendon a year ago, and has been rehabbing. The decision to just be a trail/pleasure horse was made, and he is having fun.He can be a hard keeper and eats a lot. My budget is $650 a month for full board (which is a must at this point in my life). Hay and grain need to be included for that price. I can provide the grain and supplemental hay for a lower amount a month.
I know that horse keeping is different in Colorado than it is in Florida, and I am prepared to have to adjust for myself (I am pretty sure the horse will love it). We will be settling in the Thornton/Westminster area. I do not mind driving for him up to 25 miles. I have looked a lot in the Golden area for boarding.
Basically, I need a shelter or stall for my horse, a run or large paddock attached. I want him to be able to come and go inside as he pleases.
Access to trails, and arena (an indoor would be nice, but is not a necessity).
Any and all suggestions are welcome. My best bet at this time is around March or April 2018.
The greater Denver area is much like LA in driving distance. Where in the Denver area will you be living? Figure that out first. Don’t want to recommend something in Littleton when you are moving to the north side of Boulder.
PM me … we may be just the thing you’re looking for until you get settled and look around, as there are many options but boarding in this area (north Denver) can be spendy. We are bare-bones (while still having attached runs and indoor) but not terribly expensive.

I used to ride here for a bit as a child. Great trails, indoor and outdoor ring, swimming pool, tack shop, etc. Seems to be in your budget and is in Golden.
Golden is a lovely area but it’s not easy nor direct to get to from Thornton/Westminster. You might have an easier time looking near Erie/Boulder area.

I thought I had mentioned I would be living in Thornton/Westminster area.

TMR is high on my list. I have been checking them out online, and plan to visit hopefully before the move. Thank you
A quick heads up as you look. Runs and paddocks are available but don’t plan on seeing the same lush grass you are used to in FL. The run will most likely be dirt. Even a small paddock may only have dirt. Pastures will have grass but it’s usually pretty scruffy looking comparing to photos I’ve seen in FL.
If the pasture is large enough and there aren’t many horses on it, may not need to supplement feed during the summer otherwise, they’ll need some hay even during summer.
I grew up in NC, they had lush grass, Central Florida not so much. Majority of grass that can survive the heat is crab grass. No pastures, dirt paddock/pasture keeping here.
I too have seen those pictures…but it isn’t Central Florida.
Hi! I have room at my 2 acre place in Foxfield (Parker and Arapahoe Rd). I have a 3 Horse barn (2 stalls open to horses and one stall used for hay and tack). I am offering full care. Horses are out on pasture (no grass), so I feed alfalfa hay twice a day and senior grain (I know Thoroughbreds can be hard keepers).I have a 15 year old Thoroughbred gelding who is already out there and could use a friend! $450/month all inclusive. Please message me for further details! Thanks!
