Horse boarding near Fort Irwin, CA?

This is a strangely specific question, but is there anyone here familiar with the Fort Irwin, CA, area who knows of boarding stables in the area? The closest places I’m seeing are like 2-3 hours away, so I was hoping someone knows of a small place in/near Barstow (still 40-45 minutes from the base, but at least it would be doable…)

Thanks lol

Fort Irwin is a long way out there.

There was a stable on post, but it was privately operated, and that might be your only option close to base. If they still exist:

The latest post on here is 2016, but the woman who posted seems to be near Fort Campbell now:

If you contact her, maybe she can tell you if the stable still operates and who to contact.

Ooh, thanks! I’ll see if I can get in touch with her and get more info.

ETA: looks like Irwin has a horse detachment there still, so should definitely be stables. Whether they allow private boarding or not will be another story though I guess :stuck_out_tongue:

The horse detachment was able to direct me to the private stable’s current facebook page (High Desert Equestrian Club) so looks like I’m in luck. Thanks!

That’s great!

Other bases used to have boarding, but now don’t take private clients, even self help, so you got lucky.

A friend of mine lives in Newberry Springs and works at Ft. Irwin. She has horses. I’ll send her an e for a suggestion.
And, yup… Ft. Irwin is way on out there.

Thanks!

Hi. I reached my friend. She said that Ft. Irwin still has stables and they’re very nice. They also have a Calvary unit there.
(My Grandpa was 7th Calvary in the Mexican Border War. I have some great pictures.)

She’s about 50 miles from Ft. Irwin. She’s willing to Board - but it sounds like there are good facilities at the base.
