Horse Boarding & Riding - Riverside County, CA

Hi all! As life turns out, I am relocating from Louisville, KY to Riverside County, CA. As such, I need a new boarding facility for my mare, as well as any insight I can get on the area!

We are looking on the west-side of the county and am looking for a boarding barn as far north as Norco to as far south as Temecula. I have what may be the world’s easiest mare who will stay fat on air and gets along with pretty much everyone.

Needs:

  • Great care
  • Access to trails/good hacking
  • Not wildly expensive
Wants:
  • Turnout (big wish here, but horse might be ok in the right paddock-living situation)
  • Eventing Trainer (but would be ok with a jumping or Dressage-specific trainer who is ok working with an eventer)
Any suggestions or other things I should be thinking of? I appreciate any info I can get!

Tons of options but you could check out https://www.socalequine.com/ Many trainer/boarding options there for the area you’re interested in. Turnout as you’re probably used to will be very different in So Cal, not the kind of green grass as on east coast! The more you get south to Temecula the better your options get for turnout and eventing space. All depends on what you want to pay for board/training etc. Good luck with your move!

Check out Telesis Equestrian in Norco, CA. https://www.telesisequestrian.com

Thank you for the suggestions! I will check both out!

Luckily, I have a fat mare who practically lives in a muzzle in KY, so lack of grass will be a relief!

I honestly have never heard a horseman say that phrase out here.

I’d start with Megan Leper in Norco. She currently events but has a background in HJ as well. She lives on the property. A HJ friend rode with her for awhile: I visited once and the horses looked good and the people seemed nice. That was at a different facility so I don’t what sort of stall/paddock set-up she has now. If you’re willing to drive to Temecula you could find someone at or near Galway and there are also barns in that area that may have at least some cross-country jumps.

It’s going to be hot (which you’re probably used to) and brown. Very brown. Every time I visit Kentucky I convince myself that I’m a bad horse owner because my horse doesn’t live in a big grass field and get to hang out under a tree all day. Riverside is not a bad place to live. There are neighborhoods with cute, older homes. The downtown area at least used to have some fun shops and places to eat. UC Riverside should have cultural stuff. I kept a horse in Riverside from 1994-2003 so that’s my reference point.

Before I moved a draft cross to KY, I would never have said it. But Spring every year makes me a bit nervous.

Thank you! Going to check out Temecula and a barn or two down there, but I appreciate the contact in Norco!
