My barn owner sent me a video of my gelding casually chomping on some small bits of an evergreen type tree in his paddock. We’ve noticed that he always seems to want to snack on leaves/trees no matter the season. He does this on trail rides, walking to and from turnout, and now in turnout, apparently.
He has free choice access to a round bale and is turned out with a few quiet buddies. He gets 2.5 lbs of Tribute Senior Sport, 1 lb Purina Enrich Plus, and a Vit E/ Selenium supplement.
Is he just weird and likes to nibble on trees from time to time, is it boredom, or could there be some nutritional deficiency? He’s healthy and well as far as we know, I’m just curious.
