Horse Fly Masks

Hello everyone, i wanted to mention that I had my horse quite stressed because in the area where we live there are many flies and it was a problem for him. Therefore, I decided to investigate what products could help to start avoiding this and I found some anti-fly masks. I wanted to tell you that they were a great help for my horse and that is why I want to recommend them to you if anyone is going through the same problem, you will see that it changes their mood.

That is why I want to recommend these products that I bought on Amazon, in addition to the fact that they surprisingly protect my horse from the sun on his face and eyes.

Also, the flies do a lot of damage to his legs, that is why perhaps I will explore some element that will help him with this as well, and if you know of any I would appreciate it.

Thank you so much!!!

I was foregiving leaving you the link hahahah, i bought one of each colour for my horse!!

PD: If you can help me with his legs it will be really helpful for me :star_struck: :star_struck: :star_struck: :star_struck:

Many use fly masks but I just went to using Swat clear fly repellent this year over fly masks. I have a mare with allergies that come and go and it causes her to have itchy eyes that she wants to rub.

I found that keeping a mask on her caused her to have flare ups of watery, swollen eyes that were very hard to get under control. Even with washing her fly masks the dirt that would get on the screen area protecting the eyes after a roll did more harm than good.

I can say I have not had a flare up on her eyes all Summer. If I see she may be a bit teary I just put some eye gel in and she is fine. It is wonderful.

My other 2 horses seem happier unmasked as well but masks work well for so many horses and are really a great option to protect your horse from flies.

Fly leggings work really, really well. 2 of mine wear them 24/7 . I have 1 horse who destroys them immeditely, so I just spray him well with the expensive stuff. That works.

Harrison Howard fly leggings are an affordable , reliable option and sold on Amazon. I have those.

I’ve had the opposite experience with fly masks vs. Swat. I used to use Swat and the flies would avoid the area around the eye and instead land directly in the eyes, which caused conjunctivitis. I haven’t had that problem since I’ve started using the masks. However, I really hate making the horses wear masks on these ghastly hot and humid days, and I’m seriously considering trying the Swat again on those days.

Agree 100% that fly leggings are worth the money.

I agree- I leave masks off on the really hot humid days, which seems like every day lately  I use the Endure roll on for the face and it’s decent. Only my one guy is in pasture though and the other is on a dry lot so the bugs aren’t quite as bad. Overall, the flies are horrible this year though!!

I’ve stopped using flymasks.
I think the faceflies bother me more than the horses.
My one horse reacts to fly bites, but only on his neck & jaw & applying SWAT seems to help.
I’m also going to try generic Zyrtec (per my vet).

The only time I masked him was when he rubbed on something for the neck itchiness & managed to scratch his eye.
The other 2 - pony & mini - aren’t bothered by going unmasked.

Seems like everyones experience is different. I never used fly masks in the past, just started the last 7 years or so. My flies aren’t as nasty as yours!!

Thank you Ozarks!!!

Thank you!!!

You’re welcome

My Zyrtec experiment proved a Magic Bullet!
Dosing just 1X daily (in PM grain) since Friday, horse is less itchy & no more coughing from the mini
Both eat the teeny pills w/o a fuss.
