Horse Height?

Largely depends on the length of the rider’s torso relevant to the overall length of the pony and how the pony carries its head.[/QUOTE]

This plus barrel size also.

My mare is 15.0 but very round. I am 5’1" with short legs. I make her look huge! My daughter is 5’4" but mostly torso and while she doesn’t look too big, it surprises me how much different she looks on this mare because of her torso being so long.

In general, unless it’s a dainty little thing or your daughter is a heavy 5’2", your daughter won’t be “too big” in the sense that the pony can’t do the job. But she might not look like she fits that well if it’s a slight, slab-sided pony and she’s got a long torso.

I’m 5’5", my mare is 14.3. Photos below.

World champion Sherry Cervi who is almost 6 feet tall, rides her world champion mare Stingray who is only about 14.2 hands. I think they look just fine. And they clearly don’t seem to have a problem winning.

I personally don’t think rider vs. horse height has much to do with it. Yes, you’ll need to modify your cues for a tall rider on a short horse, and a short rider on a tall horse, etc, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be done.

BUT, if she was showing in a different discipline, one in which the overall picture presented by the horse and rider was a factor, she might not fare as well.

This.
This is why I sold my pony mare. Suitability would have prevented us from ever winning in the hunters.

i’m 5’2" petite build and rode a 13 hand pony for several months, and a larger pony for a year before that.
