Shelley - is Magnificent Wreck on your watch list? He is an '09 Point Given, owned by Molinari Racing, and trained by Angel Molinari. His last race was 2/10/17 at Camarero. He has over 70 starts. Thanks for any info.

Shelley, do you remember a horse named Episode on Tour? Had 102 starts, all at Suffolk Downs except his last 8 at Camerero in 2011. Finished 8th in his last race there in 2011 when owned by ER Stud and trained by Pedro Salinas. Always assumed he met a bad end. Do you know anything?

I missed this post about Springcourt. I am so grateful to you for adding him to your watch list. Have been watching him since he was sent to PR and have been heartsick about it. Bless You All for caring about these beautiful, unfortunate creatures who need help desperately.

What happened to the racehorses in Puerto Rico and the rest of the Carribean during this horrible hurricane season ok I just looked at the FB page for info and it looks like they need help.

I have been worried about that too. I know at best, racehorses in Puerto Rico are at risk. :frowning:

800 horses at the Puerto Rico racetrack?
Many more horses off the track and w/o hay after the hurricane?
Time to bring some of the TBs back to the continent to get them out of there.

from what I have heard, the track in PR was hit hard. Horses cannot get out of their stalls due to the disaster conditions around them. Roofs of barns are gone. There is no good hay or grain to feed them. Very sad situation there. Looking bleak for those equines caught in the storm on PR.

Just about every horse sent to PR to race has a grim future. There is a very small few who get to come home or find new careers there. The remainder will be euthanized on the track when they are no longer winning. Very., very sad. But the American breeding industry is just as much to blame here as very few breeders are willing to step in and help those they bred. Every time I see a horse sold there when looking at their equibase history; it is very depressing.

I hope someone out there is coordinating some help for these horses at hipodromo camarero. Send a barge down there with some stalls on it and start shipping horses out of there.

Here is some happy adoption news. I live and ride my ottb from the pr racetrack where he has found a new life as a jumper. Most of the other horses retired are used as jumpers and have good lives. The major problem with the tbs is that it’s just too expensive to get them off the island. Perhaps if there was a way to raise funds for the airfare more could be rescued. Another problem is that most Puerto Rican’s prefer to ride the local horses which are the Paso Finos. In addition to the reasons mentioned there is a disease that the horses can get in pr which means they have to be quarantined so they don’t bring it back to the mainland.

Shelly, I just wanted to say THANK YOU for all you do and the help you have offered to the connections of Yougottabcattycatty. I can’t wait to go visit him once he gets home.

I’’ contribute to anyone who brings back a horse from Puerto Rico. Those horses sent there look great.
I sent a donation for hay to a group that helps out down there.

Ugottabcatty is one of 8 horses that have started the quarantine process prior to returning to the mainland. He’ll be going to his former owner in Washington state.

Sounds like Caribbean Thoroughbred Aftercare has been the organization facilitating the TB’s returning to the mainland.

Conditions appear to be improving. Feed and grain are available and some shavings. Biggest issue is still many stalls without roofs.

Shelley@CTA has been posting and keeping everyone up to date. Ditto The Paulick Report

Figured I’d post an update here because I don’t follow Shelley@ CTA or Paulick’s Report (very often).

I just saw the very sad news on Twitter that unstoppable u was euthanized this morning due to founder. So sad.

on a better note, 7 including Ugottabcatty, landed in Miami today and are headed to a better life.

@society I am so very sorry Unstoppable U did not make it home, I know he had a special place in your heart.

But thanks to him and you many more people know about the plight of the thoroughbreds in Puerto Rico.

Many Blessings to everyone helping all the Island Horses in need of assistance.
