I just used the PP GI about 6 weeks ago to help a horse that I had been dealing with this fecal water issue squirting before/after the poop. Nasty rear and legs hosed off in cold weather. He ate it dressed on top of his TC Sr, no problem. I just wanted to let you know how very very well it worked. Took about a month but his watery squirts stopped and his manure became individual shiny balls. So keep on trying to get him to eat it!
I’ve had horses that will not TOUCH their feed with Platinum on it - they are fine with flax, but hate the Platinum products. The stuff SMELLS kind of nasty. I have had better luck with other brands.
That’s awesome that it worked so well, I’m already noticing a difference even though he’s not eating the full dose yet. I was able to skip the butt bath yesterday for the first time in a while!
Morning report - he actually nickered when he saw his bucket and he gobbled up the full morning dose/applesauce mixture on top of his TC Sr! Whoohoo!
UPDATE - After my last post, he stopped eating his grain again so I stopped trying with the PP GI. For the past three feedings, he’s still refusing some of his grain although there are NO supplements in it now. He’ll take a bite, let it dribble out of his mouth, and then he walks back out to his paddock. He’ll eat some, but is leaving about 1/2 behind. Now, I’m just reading into everything and wondering if he still thinks his grain is “poisoned”, or if these gut issues he’s been having are related to his lack of appetite? He’s eating his hay normally, but it still having the loose manure and fecal liquid squirts.
I plan to call the vet tomorrow but in the meantime was wondering what you guys thought.
My horse had that reaction to horsetech supplements. I actually had to wash with soap his feed bucket and then he returned to eating… let’s just say that all the picky eater approved supplements and cookies have met their match with my horse
Interesting - my old gelding isn’t eating the GI version that well either. I called Friday to tell them and get a bucket of the plain PP instead. He licks the bucket clean with the plain PP! It also is making his manure have the most foul odor ever :dead:
UPDATE: Vet came out and found an impaction
Obviously I now have NO idea whether he doesn’t like the taste of the PP GI or if he was just feeling crummy this past week. Thanks for adding another piece to the mystery, dear horse!
Hopefully he feels better soon. Poor guy.
Thank you, me too! He knows how to stress me out, that’s for sure
I’ve fed Platinum for years and all my others would eat it. This one, not fan at all (and I’ve tried all the flavors). I’ve tried apple cider vinegar and applesauce. I’ve used beet pulp and that has worked with the others; we will see if this one will go for it. I tasted it by accident yesterday. It is nasty. Platinum suggested applesauce and also to put forage on top of it. If anybody cracks the code, let me know please. I’m in a boarding barn so exotic solutions are not an option.
Id go with MVP Exceed 6-way. VERY similar, pelleted, and slightly less in price if I recall.
Another vote for MVP Exceed 6-way if you can’t get him on the Platinum.
They have 4 flavors now and can adjust flavoring in the Platinum Paks for sure. I would call them. They will refund you, then send out another set of samples to try and then get you situated. They are WONDERFUL to work with!
Equithrive Complete Joint - pelleted and clinically proven to work.
I had to make soup with the feed and PP to get my horse to even go near it and he eats absolutely everything, even PB&J I got him through the first bucket and it just wasn’t worth it to me the stall was a mess because he sloshed it everywhere so I’m not really sure how much he was ingesting. Switched to the MVP Exceed 6 way and he loves it.
Call PP they are awesome in customer service and will refund you if you’re having that many issues. Amazing people and products just wish they made a pelleted version
