Horse Management/Business software.

Hi All,

I am researching software to manage my horses and my business. I have broodmares, and their offspring, as well as purchased horses from Germany. I have been using spreadsheets and files, and it is becoming too cumbersome. I would like to hear opinions of others as to what software you all have used and prefer. There are so many out there I am hoping to narrow the list. TIA

Tim

I sent you a PM.

You don’t need to buy anything all if you set up Excel well, and quickbooks for your biz.

Easy peasy.

Stable Secretary is incredibly easy to use.

I had heard about Stable Secretary, but upon first glance it looked more focused towards a boarding facility, not a breeding and sales one. Do you have anymore insight on that? I was hoping to have something I could purchase, and not pay monthly. Thanks for your input.

Equine Genie. The best!

Stable Secretary is in the process of adding a breeding section their program and it is AMAZING!! I’ve been helping to set it up and test it. I love the program in general and excited to have this added section

I have to say, so far, I am very impressed with Equine Genie. I don’t want a monthly service fee, so Stable secretary gets a demerit for that. It also doesn’t have the breeding software yet. Still looking but so far this is looking good.

Thanks Lisa

Just as a follow up, I decided to go with Equine Genie. Their service so far has been exceptional. You get software you can load on your PC. (This was a bit of a problem, because my home computer is a Mac. They have solutions for that too). I really think they thought of everything. The President also teaches at U. of CO business for their Equine program. A lot of the other programs are for managing your own personal horses. This is great and all, but not practical for a business. Most of the “Cloud Based” software are too expensive for anything more then a few horses. Thanks again for everyone’s input, I appreciate it.

Hey Tim, curious what you’ve experienced with Equine Genie? Looks powerful but somewhat antiquated. Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Steve

I also would love to know how it’s going with Equine Genie? Mine would be running on a MacBook…

You should check out Barnlog! We started using it in may to keep track of our 8-12 horses since may and have been super happy. It is set up really well to have all of each horses information such as birth date, registration numbers, pedigree, documents, etc. and has a really good calendar system we use to manage vet or farrier records, amongst other things. https://www.barnlog.com/

So I have been using it for a bout a year. It is powerful software, but It does take a little bit getting used to. The customer service is great though, so I never was far off from help. I have a unique business, so I wasn’t sure it would take care of my needs, but to date I can say it does. I love not having a monthly bill, but I did have to put it onto my PC, as they do not have a Mac version. All in All, I would say I like it, and I am sure I am still not using it to its fullest potential, but I suppose that is normal. As far as antiquated, that is more of style than actuality. It was based on Windows XP, but was updated since then. I suggest you talk to Bob at Equine Genie if you have any questions. He is great to talk to.
