It’s part of a coupled entry… 1, 1a, 1x etc
Do they all use 1X or do some racetracks use 1B?
(Why does it seem I’m more familiar with 1B?)
Thanks DRV.
I understand coupled entries but I thought the third one was 1B.
I think some places use X because a B might be mistaken for an 8. Though not sure why that would be a point of confusion seeing that an 18 horse field never happens except for one track for one race once a year.
When there are multilple entries in a race the second part of the 2 entry is 2B

If you’re referring to yesterday’s Bertram Bongard at Belmont, Flying Zee had four horses entered and the saddlecloths were 1, 1A, 1B, and 1X.
Good catch, On the Farm. Yes, I think that is what I was watching.
I was under the impression that for coupled entries it was 1-1A-1X (if there was a 3rd horse in the entry), 2-2B-2Y, etc. Maybe I am wrong? Or maybe it is different at different tracks? I don’t even remember where I ever came up with that idea…
I had that impression, too, although I’ve never seen a 2Y saddlecloth. OTOH, I’ve never seen a four-horse joint-entry.
