Horse Pal or H-Trap biting fly traps

I don’t see a recent thread on these, but I do see that various folks have used the Horse Pal trap over the years. (And that the Epps trap did not get good reviews.)

So, is anyone using the Horse Pal and are you (still) happy with it? http://www.bitingflies.com/

What about the Spalding H-Trap which appears to be the same concept? https://www.spalding-labs.com/products/fly_control_products/fly_traps/p/h_trap.aspx

(Which came first? The HP is supposed to be patented, how can there be something that similar?)

On my second year with the Horse Pal and it is still excellent. I put it outside my dry lot on a small rise and catch MANY horse flies and deer flies. Next month, I’ll catch many greenheads. I live in coastal MA and it’s very buggy – this thing saves my herd a ton of pain. And me.

I couldn’t bear to spend that much money on one so I made my own. I don’t know how it compares to the commercial ones in efficiency but it does work! Pics and a link to instructions here: http://thesmallhorsefarm.blogspot.com/2016/07/biting-fly-trap.html?m=1
