Horse Protection Act?

TikTok, Instagram, all of the things have been abuzz lately with very alarming videos about how the horse show industry is going to change on Feb 1. Examples are no more fly spray, no leather pads for shoes, horses with superficial scars being barred from competition forever…

Does anyone have any backed evidence as to what the truth is? It’s surprising to me that if it is true, the USEF hasn’t made a comment on it yet. I mean it’s 2 weeks away…

I don’t want to encourage more fear mongering or theorizing but am hoping we can all get some clarity!

Interesting. It seems the Horse Protection Act came into being to end the Tennessee Walker practice of β€œsoring” horses but has now been revised to includes all equine shows and exhibitions.

There’s another thread with more info: π–π‘πšπ 𝐭𝐑𝐞 π‘πžπ―π’π¬πžπ π‡π¨π«π¬πž 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐒𝐨𝐧 π€πœπ 𝐖𝐒π₯π₯ 𝐌𝐞𝐚𝐧

But, the Horse Protection Act was passed to stop absolutely horrific practices in the Tennessee Walking Horse discipline and unfortunately they have well earned their Acts of Congress.

The TWH people want to pretend it’s not just about them to try to get cover so they don’t have to account for what their winning trainers do to big lick horses.

This is not a threat to the rest of us, and to the extent it is, it’s because the TWH people have been so creative in their attempts to continue their practices.

The horses themselves are lovely, and as my dear friend puts it, the fact that we don’t hear of anyone killed by TWH treated this way is a testament to the amazing and forgiving temperament in the breed.

The hunter world also needs to take a hard look at its self…. As do most every industry. But the horse protection act does have vague enough wording to be a danger to our industry though at this exact point in time it’s way too new to tell what issues it will bring. I do agree there’s extreme misinformation and for the most part most riders don’t have to worry but there is that possibility in the future to also keep an eye on. It will depend who is driving it mostly
