Horse Sales Banned on Facebook

Big brouhaha on FB that animal sales are not allowed and that FB is finally enforcing it, coming after horses for sale in particular? Anybody see this? Seems the rule has always been in place, but now FB is not allowing horses for sale postings if/when they see them go up. Some members of this group have posted pics of “rejected” by Facebook horse ads. Others say these ads are being reported. But when I click on any ol’ horse for sale ad to “report it”, there is no choice to report the ad for being an animal for sale(downward arrow in upper right hand of posts). (Not that I’m trying to report it for real, just trying to see if there is an option to report an animal for sale post–as some say there is). Anyone else hear of this? https://www.facebook.com/groups/HorseSales/?fref=nf

Interesting. I did notice a Facebook group for sales horses that I follow recently changed its page type away from buy and sell to support and they also took sales out of the name of the group. I thought that was kind of odd but it maybe to avoid this issue

Hmmm. I follow a page called Ohio Horses for Sale, Lease or Adoption.

Yeah, I posted my horse for sale in several groups through the “add item for sale” box once you are in the group home page. Then it said my post was “rejected” later because of the terms and conditions. My posts are still visible though, I think. I don’t know. I think the only way around it is to post everything as a “discussion” post and include links to videos and pictures in the body of the discussion, as well as price. It’s so stupid and a pain in the butt but it’s not like I’ve been kicked off FB because of it or anything.

I follow several groups on FB and about 4-5 have changed their names slightly. Still have some with the title around “Horse sales” in it. Interesting…

Yep. I’ve noticed that all of the animal sale groups (mostly horses and waterfowl) I’m part of have changed their name and/or privacy settings.

Is this a bad thing?

Well, it is certainly inconvenient. But that aside, Facebook allows me to network for sales within my trusted groups (I just about always have a friend in common sellers, or know someone who’s done business with them, or can at least go scope out their profile and see where they are and what sort of horse activities they’re up to.) Seems harder to be a successful sketchy, anonymous buyer or seller than on other sites, which I would think is overall beneficial to people and horses. Also, I spend WAYYYY more time on FB since I joined a bunch of sale groups than I otherwise would.

@SweetMutt I completely agree, and as someone who has sold both of her sales horses in the past year on FB? yes absolutely. And I have sold others prior to that via FB. It is a great platform. I also keep my page fairly public so potential buyers can really screen me, my farm, and my program if they want.
