Horse tattoo??

Does anyone else hace one? Im thinking of getting one on my shoulder…trying to get my bf to draw it… want a jumper!!!

If you do end up getting a horse done, make sure you use an artist that does animals. As in has a whole portfolio full of awesome animal tattoos.

Also make sure the artist gets the anatomy, tack, ect exactly right on the sketch before it goes on your body.

A good friend of mine, who is not a horse person, has a horse as a part of his full sleeve. The horse’s anatomy is off, so it’s head and legs are a bit weird. And it has some soft of halter/bridle thing on that makes no sense, the artist obviously wasn’t a horse person. Every time I look at it I’m like “bah it’s wrong!”. Drives me nuts. It is otherwise a beautiful piece of art.

Yes… we already threw out one pic… he does deer(ik not a hore) but has done horses for me before…as far as tack im not going to have any on…kinda want a free jumper through a horse shoe… life like. But no color…
I think itd be hard to find a horse tattoo artist! Lol

TheJenners on Off Course posted a photo of her jumping horse tattoo in her HR wedding thread:

Maybe she can be helpful?

I have a very cool horse shoe on my calf, but I don’t think I would ever get a horse. Just too easy to mess up. I agree with the others…find a VERY good artist and let no needle touch your skin until you are absolutely in love with the artwork.

Also, the advice my (very inked) brother gave me…how long have you been thinking about this tattoo (if this is your first?)? While he thought it was very cool I wanted a tattoo, he warned me a couple of years ago when I first started thinking about it to wait and make sure I kept coming back to wanting what I wanted. I love my artwork (he actually has a similar horseshoe, which I’ve always LOVED, and he helped the artist- a friend- make it perfect). I’ve had it well over a year, and I still get very, very happy when I see it (usually in the shower, this time of year!).

I have a half-sleeve of three horses around my upper arm, along with a sun on my shoulder. The sun was taken from a piece done during the French Renaissance and the horses were inspired by a Da Vinci sketch.

Most horse tattoos I have seen are pretty tacky, but I also find most small, easily hidden tattoos to be tacky. I would suggest actually designing your tattoo yourself, along with your tattoo artist (and make sure you put alot of thought into choosing your artist… and don’t be cheap about it either, a good artist will charge about $150 an hour). I am personally not a fan of any horse tattoos that are just a black outline with no shading or anything which seems to be alot of them… but that’s just my opinion.

I wish I had a better picture, but…

I’ve posted mine on here before. It’s had another few hours put into it since then, but is still not finished. It’s a Sarah Lynn Richards watercolor.

I was going to get that on my shoulder! I didn’t, in the end, but it’s still one of my favorite ideas for a horsey tattoo. Very nice!

Thanks. It’s still in need of major work - we added some other things around it and, rather than finishing the horse first and THEN adding, the artist decided to go ahead with the other stuff and finish the horse later. Not exactly what I’d have done, but hey. I’m guessing there’s at least another 8 or so hours of work left to be done - the work in the picture was about 5 hours in.

I had debated hotly between this guy and the jumper she did, but decided I wasn’t as fond of the neck on the jumper, and it wouldn’t quite utilize the shape and space of my back as well.

This is mine: http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-snc7/2308_55824530212_507505212_1926979_8029_n.jpg

I drew it myself and then sized it down to fit on my right shoulder.

The artist traced it and then inked it, so it looks exactly like I wanted it to.

It’s in memory of my heart horse who passed away.

Awwww, I got mentioned!!

OP, be prepared to send it back a couple times. I came in with exactly what I wanted printed out. He had to re-draw it on a different kind of paper, to “transfer” it onto my skin. He made the head reeeeeeeally weird looking, from a nice typical square-ish bucket shape to a weird overly-rounded thing. He had to re-do it three times, for JUST the head. Everything else he copied over fine.

I found a pic of the kind of head he kept trying to draw. Blech…

After he put the transfer on, I double-checked it really carefully in a mirror.

I have 2. The first one is only horse related in that I am an equine vet…

The second I got in honor of my heart horse.

I’m planning a 3rd (and larger) set for my back of 3 horses in a stylized fashion, one jumper, one dressage horse and one XC horse. It’s just in planning now though.

I sketched mine many times before I liked how it looked.

Honestly I have been planning and thinking about my tattoo for years. I have still not perfected it. I want to be certain that I will always love it no matter what.

I have several but have mostly gone with tribal images.
Here are mine

Heinz 57 - That’s gorgeous!!

I have one. A line drawing I designed when I was 16. It’s very simple and you can only see it if I have a swim suit on.

Think long and hard. I was going to sneak out and get mine done with a friend when I was 17. Figured getting kicked out of the house wasn’t worth it, so I waited til I was 21 and had my own health insurance (my mom’s rule for permanent body altering).

I waited 5 years to get it done, never faltered on the design/ color/ location and I’m meh about it now. I like it, but I wouldn’t do it again.

If you do a search you will find multiple threads about this topic.

I like all of yours… i have deffinatly been thinking about it for a long time… i want mine realistic looking. One jumping… but thats why i keep waiting is because when my bf drew it, there was just something about the front legs chest and hooves… idk maybe i could have my step mom draw it… as she used to do tattoo flash before…just wanted my bf to do it

There is a saddle manufacturer who has a nice jumping horse logo. I swore it was Country, but I just checked and it’s not.

Man…you dont know the name of it? Lol
