So, my 3 yo has been pooping in his water buckets the past week…but I think he thinks he’s stuck, if that makes any sense?
A few weeks ago he did catch his tail in the bucket…and he’s pretty chill, so he stayed there until I freed him. I immediately taped up the bucket handles…so no chance of getting the tail stuck again. Few weeks go by and the water bucket pooping starts. So I realize, when I go out for late night, he is standing with his butt at the water bucket and won’t come for his treat. I check and his tail is not caught…I push his rump over, and he’s like, “oh, I can move” and comes right over and gets his cookies. This has happened a few times at late night and in the morning. Tonight I go out, and he must have thought he was stuck since he got dinner…he had two piles of poo right adjacent to the buckets and a pile of poo in each of the buckets and had been pawing. He was not colicky…as soon as he realized he was not stuck (I pushed his rump over) he went to pee right away, so I think the pawing spot was he wanted to move and had to pee, but thought he couldn’t? He went right to eating hay and treats and was otherwise fine.
Sooooo…how do I stop this weird behavior? I am going to try and raise the buckets as high as I can (but can only go so high because of the water pipe and the grills of the stall front. Open to any suggestions!
