Horse Trailer Jack Not Working

Older model two horse bumper pull Sundowner. I noticed the jack stand (not a wheel just a rectangular piece of metal) which was always parallel to the trailer was crocked and it was harder to turn the handle. Today it will only go down a little and then the handle just spins without moving the jack stand up. I am not sure how I will get it to the trailer repair place because it will not go up enough to get the full weight of the trailer on the hitch.

Any suggestions?

Hmmm, I would jack up the trailer with another jack so the trailer stand is not load bearing. You may be able to get it to move then, so it out of the way.

If the handle is spinning, it sounds like it got disconnected from the gear that moves the stand up and down - so you might be able to take apart the top part, and then fix it there.

Replacing a trailer jack is actually fairly easy. As hilary said, use another jack to hold the trailer up. Your truck jack should work well. The unbolt the old jack and put a new one in.

I like these guys for jacks. Just match one on their site with what you’ve got.
