Horse trailer questions?

Now that i’ve invested in cam-locks… I was looking at yours, does it open toward the front?

Cam-lock question: Your door above ramp opens into the wind too. There must be a reason for this since two VERY nice trailers have the opening going that way. I’m curious as-to the benefit?

Your top door opens into the wind too! Ok, why? i do not understand…

IF it opens the other way it will block the tackroom door. The sucker is long. I wanted all of my access doors on the curb side.

For @ThreeWishes trailer, because that ramp is so far forward on the trailer, there will be nowhere to tie it back if it opened the other way.

The suggestion to open towards the front of the trailer to avoid the wind pulling at it is 1) just a suggestion and 2) [to me] applies less to camlatch doors because they aren’t going ANYwhere when latched in position. Paddle latch and handle latch doors are much weaker, because there’s nothing holding the top and the bottom tight.

Edit: Note my tackroom door (handle latch) and single escape door (handle latch with paddle latch over it) open in non-suicide orientation.

ahh… i see. Thanks.

Since my tackroom door is on drivers side i can have it open over toward the front and tie it off somewhere in the gooseneck space, (i guess with a rope or a bungee and i suppose it will inevitably make a mark or indent into that flat panel that is the non-door side of tackroom)

So, do you ever leave your horse(s) in there with the top rampdoor open and ramp still upright? Does it seem too tempting an opening? Mind you, none of my horses have lived in a stall, and most of them have never even been in one. I may have to do some practice enclosures within a corral a few times…

I would not personally do that, no. I won’t even drop the bars when they’re in there. I’ve seen a horse try to stuff themselves out of a window and I won’t ever give mine the chance.

Makes sense. and i’ve seen mustangs clear a fence from a dead standstill…like deer do. And sail through the opening above the door in a standing stock. Where there’s a will there’s a way…

I’ll make sure that one of the windows is on that door above ramp.

You could get a plunger tie back. They aren’t the best in windy conditions, but better than nothing.

Well, you’re brilliant! (ust googled—who knew!!). lol-you did

I am glad you mentioned fly masks on the horses…I just bought a 3 horse slant with the stock sides, and that would not have occurred to me!

Wow! Okay, whoever buys one of these needs to post here and tell us all about it! (This was referring to the 3d printed trailer… whoops!)

Any suggestions for a good trailer camera system?

My trailer is finished! Sales person just sent me these pics! It’s a 10hr r/t so i need to make sure everything is OK before going to pick it up. So…please help me be critical! (Thanks!)

It looks great to me!

Let’s see your build sheet, if you have one?

Looks pretty good! Any other hold back than that drop bar for the back door?

what do you mean? Yeah…i’m concerned about that being the only thing that keeps the door closed (if that’s what you mean)

No the L shaped bar on the big back door. Is there any other thing that holds that door open, or is that it? The reason I ask is that won’t work so hot on concrete or hard gravel.

The only thing I see is no step for the dressing room door, but that might be how you ordered it. It looks beefy!

oh that. well, i have never had even this degree of block. What i use on mine is a rope…

I’m having trouble with the middle gate. I never considered that they would have to bump a little panel out on both sides in order to clear the wheel wells. This way, the way they have it … there’s no way i could haul four horses loose. Those panels would/could get smashed or cause a big bruise. I’d have to go two and two. (not easy if you’re loading wildies). I suppose i can adapt. But it wasn’t what i imagined.

Also, i thought the gooseneck would be carpeted (except the floor where i paid extra for a mat floor).

I havetold them i need something better / more secure as a latch on the back. Heck! even the ramp has two (of course it has to because hinge at bottom)… I need a better/more secure closure.

Other than that, i’m thrilled!

Does your build sheet or quote specify carpet on the gooseneck?

How wide is the trailer? Those bump outs inside the horse area are standard for trailers when the interior width is big - the axles can’t be extended out further by law, so they have to let them into the horse area.
