Horse Trailer Wall Storage Ideas: Gridwall?

I just bought a slant trailer with a tack room. It doesn’t have any wall storage and I would love to create a way to hang saddles, bridles, bins and other things. I had an idea and I’d love suggestions on how to execute it or tell me it’s a terrible idea! LOL Is it possible to mount merchandise grid wall along one wall of the trailer? Then I could hang moveable saddle racks, bridle racks, hanging bins and other things in different configurations. It would potentially need to hold 4 saddles, bridles and an array of other things. The horse will be directly on the other side of the pictured slanted trailer wall so no screws can go through. I was thinking if I mounted it along the top and bottom steel bars perhaps the screws wouldn’t be too long. Otherwise hanging brackets made to fit around the top and bottom corners of the grid wall and having it welded on? Would this be sturdy enough for 4 saddles and other hanging equipment? Just a bad idea? Any other suggestions? Thanks so much!

OMG that’s EXACTLY what I wanted to do!!! LOLOL So how do I mount the panel on the trailer wall so it’s strong enough to hold 4+ saddles and other items without screws going into the horse area? So funny! That’s perfect!

I think I’d do a standing saddle rack, the 3 high kind instead of mounting those to a grid then chain the top to a bolt to keep it from toppling. You could do bolts through your partition, just have the shank and nut side towards the tack room.

I’d do a combo of this and the organizedbarn grid. One thing that’s easy and reasonably secure in a trailer is the rolling two saddle cart from Schneiders. Put your saddles on it, and it also can hold other items, and be rolled out for shows. A friend has one and it works well for her.

I have the organizedbarn grid in my trailer and LOVE it. And I get comments on how nice it is when we’re at shows.

I put up a gridwall in my collapsible rear tack, and also used to have one in the midtack of my old trailer. I used organizedbarn ideas as a template but actually purchased all of my stuff online from a store supply warehouse, much cheaper. However, organizedbarn does have a saddle rack that works really well on the racks so I purchased those from them for my last trailer and I’m getting ready to do it again for this one. As far as how to support it, I strategically placed the mounting brackets that they use along the tubular supports in the trailer. The ones along the top and bottom I can use the 2 horizontal holes and the vertical holes for the vertical tubes. Hope that makes sense. Just use screws that will go into the tube but not all the way through and you’ll be fine. Everyone always admires my nicely organized tack:) If you place them right you can even get the garage wall systems they sell at Depot etc. to hang on them. They have a nice variety of baskets etc. I have a mesh basket on mine that is perfect for pads and sheets. PM me if you want other info or would like to see a picture. Good luck!

Besides a grid wall, maybe securing a pegboard to the side of the trailer might help? I’ve found pegboards are a fantastic and versatile type of storage that allows you to move your items around on hooks in the pegholes if you need to shift things around a little. might have to look around for how to hang the bigger items like the saddles though the rest of the implements should go fine on hooks.

My husband bought Kobalt brand organizer strips (from Lowe’s) and installed them on my trailer walls. I already had a saddle rack, so didn’t need that. The Kobalt system has been great.

I put an organizedbarnandtrailer.com system in my DR of my 2H BP trailer – LOVE IT. It’s just two saddle racks & a girth hook (trailer came with lovely padded bridle racks). Awesome bonus: a weld broke on one of the saddle racks after about 6 months use, OBT sent me a new one immediately at no cost & apologies. I wasn’t mad – no one makes perfect welds every time, just sent a polite email of inquiry. Actually, since I’d had it for a while, I didn’t even ask for a new one, I was just going to have our local shop spot weld it for me, I just wanted to let the manufacturer know. So they got double bonus points there!

For whatever system you want, use round-headed hardware and start from the other side of the wall, the stall side. Then you won’t have to worry about any sharp tips near your horse. Instead of using screws, bolts might work better.

I have the grid system via default. It was used in my work place to display sale items but was remodeled. I took the grids home to put in my trailer tack room. I installed the grids along the wall that go the horse compartment just fine by drilling through the wall and using bolts. My question is has how do you install the grids on the back wall that is an exterior wall? I do not want to drill straight through to the outdoors and have leaks. My trailer is aluminum if that makes a difference on how to do it.

I’ve seen lots of people with the sliding storage bars you listed. You can also weld a piece of hog panel to the trailer wall and buy hanging baskets on Amazon. I made my own grid system and get lots of compliments on it. It cost me $30? My trailer is steel so I used heavy duty magnets to hang it up.

Wow that is quite resourceful! My trailer is aluminum on steel and I am a little leery of welding anything to it but one can bolt things to the steel parts of the trailer. Also I think those magnets will work just fine on the steel frame which is exposed along the top of the tack room and would probably work on the sections underneath the aluminum panels.

I figure I will put a pressure rod up to hang blankets and clothes.

I am moving away from the organizedbarn.com only because it seems more expensive than other comparable systems. From what I see in your blog, you can get the same thing for a much more reasonable price. Plus I can actually shop for and put hands on the panels.
