Horse trailers for sale

Does anyone know of any 2 horse BP trailers for sale in Florida for a cheap price? Our budget is 800$ Or so. Very low, I know, but we’re in a financial crunch right now. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I’m sure this isn’t what you were looking for, but “cheap” is absolutely not the first criteria I’d be focused on when buying a horse trailer.

Unless your “cheap” trailer is structurally sound, not rusted out, clean interior free or sharp edges or worn surfaces that could injure a horse, in good working order electrically and doesn’t ride like a tin can full of dried beans…well, the “cheap” part will be very temporary.

That is not out of range for an older 2 horse steel BP with no frills. I would take a person along who can assess the soundness if you find one.

Yeah, well, she wants to pull it with a Jeep Wrangler, so safety is not exactly a concern on her part.

@cutter99 safety is my #1 priority, please don’t assume that it’s not a concern of mine.

I was looking at used trailers last year. They were unreasonably expensive. When I went to Equine Affaire in Columbus I got a great deal on a show special. I got a new trailer for less than I would have paid for a used one. You are not going to get much of a trailer for $800. It will probably be a fixer-upper.

Says the person who wants to pull a horse trailer with a horse in it with a Jeep Wrangler. None of those things add up to “safety conscious”!

Keep in mind that a steel trailer will be quite heavy for its size.

Why would I ask about it if I wasn’t “safety conscious?” I wasn’t sure, I got mixed answers from people I know, so I asked here. I decided not to get it because of what everyone is saying. @cutter99

I think the point is that if, by some miraculous luck, you were able to find a 2 horse trailer in or near your budget, it would most certainly be old (i.e. in need of lots of repairs) and most certainly be steel. That’s fine if you can afford to do the work, but it’ll always be too heavy to pull with your vehicle. The cheapest European-type trailer (fiberglass) that I could find is listed at $5500.

@Allyrighi this is why people are cautionin you, again. There simply is nothing safe about any US-made trailer that you can pull with the vehicle you have. You could crawl down the 3 miles you currently plan to use it, 20mph, and if someone comes at you the other direction in your lane, you will never be able to swerve or slam on the brakes with any degree of safety. Your safety with your vehicle is entirely dependent on absolutely nothing going wrong… Even at 35mph, if the Jeep or the trailer blow a tire, you’ll be in trouble.

I posted several sites on your other thread where you started asking for an $800 trailer. Even coming “down” to stock trailers, I found nothing less than at least double what your budget is. And most of those were only 6’ high, which is pretty low for a horse.

Now, if you expand your search outside of FL, and are willing to put time and a little money into a trailer that needs work, maybe you can do that.

But still, you aren’t making safety your #1 priority by continuing to go with the idea of pulling a trailer, with a horse, with your Wrangler. It isn’t safe, no matter how much you want it to be, no matter how careful you think you will be - it’s rarely about the person pulling the trailer, it’s about tires blowing and other drivers doing stupid things.

At the VERY least, you should sell/trade your Wrangler and get a 1/2 ton truck. There are some good used ones which, even if not the prettiest, would be way safer than what you have. Then look for an aluminum trailer, stock or otherwise, and you’ll be in much, much better shape.

I guess I’d frame it this way, OP…if you’re in a financial crunch right now, what will you do if, God forbid, you’re pulling your 800 dollar horse trailer with your Jeep and something happens? What happens if you go to drop the tailgate and your horse has injured themselves on the ride? Your current financial crunch just turned crisis.
