Horse transport from GA to PA

Not sure what forum to ask this in. I am looking for a transport company to ship a horse from GA to PA . Johnson Horse transport who is local to me here in PA says they do not ship to or from GA??? Brooklegde quote was $1500-$2000 that sounds kinda high. I used to have the card of another local shipper here but I lost it. Does anyone know of very reliable source that I can call? I have a truck and trailer , but not interested in driving that far myself.
Thank you

Kevin Hennessey’s Nobody’s Business is also PA based.

If you are asking a shipper to pick up a single horse at a single origination point and ship to a single destination and request something like an air ride rig or box stall? It’s going to cost much more then going with a group, you’ll get billed for the whole rig. J Bros likely doesn’t do single hauls or have any groups on that route this time of year.

So, no, it doesn’t sound high if that describes the service you asked for a quote on this time of year from a DOT licensed, big rig operating outfit.

There are ways to join loads and avoid off main route pick up and drop off that greatly reduce costs. IF there is traffic on your route.

Remember, you are asking a shipper to take their rig from their home base to the pick up point in GA, deliver it to the drop off point in PA then return to their home base. If they can arrange a back haul out of PA or a haul to GA on the front end somewhere close to your pick up and drop off points? It’s cheaper. Right now, not much traffic in that route. Wait until the winter circuits crank up, there will be north south traffic up and down the northeast corridor ou can tag along with.

Not asking for special rides or single hauls. I am sure Brookeledge quote was tagging onto another load. It is just off the path of route 95 . Both of those haulers main headquarters are within 30 miniutes of where I need horse dropped off, so they are back and forth all the time

Thought Brookledge was headquartered in Ky and their big “hub” and layover point is in Lexington-might be why it’s a high quite for a, what, 500 mile haul? Problem is volume, this time of year, the big business is racetracks and they aren’t moving south to north. Maybe the quote routes thru Lex with a layover?

Might try Equine Express. They are out of DFW but move a lot of horses nationwide. If you can haul in about a month, QH Congress is going to be keeping haulers busy for several weeks and other outfits might be doing GA and Fl to Columbus via the Turnpike. If your dates are flexible, might be worth looking into something like EE or other western states based haulers.

They’re New England based but call or email JR Hudson - they’ve shipped from up here to/from FL and VA for me several times in the last year and seem to go up and down the coast for trips 1-2x a month year round (more during season). They’re super helpful, have really nice rigs and have universally beaten other quotes. I especially like that they employ people who seem to know something about horses!

So far I just found 2 companies , brook ledge and one other that Johnson transport recommended ,they are $1600 for special run box stall as he would be the only horse on the trailer . Other companies have said being its near Atlanta GA , it’s too far from I95 so they would not do it .
Brookeledge headquarters is in Pa , just 25 mikes from me .

Have you looked on www.uship.com to see if anyone has a load going your way or posted to get quotes? You have to vet the shipper’s profile and ratings carefully, but I do know people who have had good luck and good experiences using that site when they need one shipped off the beaten path.

for what it’s worth I would stay away from USHIP with a 10’ pole. There are so may illegal shippers. I had to ship from Columbus GA and because it’s so far from the regular routes it costs me about what you’re getting and I managed to share for a bit with someone else (but I was going into NY). Honestly $1600 sounds pretty good. . . If you get the horse to a barn on 95 with a local friend’s help that makes it easier.

I would try Fairway Horse Transport 978-852-3531 or 800-577-8258

I had a great experience with them. Good communication, good care and very reasonable price. I think they go regularly up and down the East Coast. Cost me $300 to ship a horse from Aiken to Martinsburg WV.

there are a couple of FB groups where you can search companies and see if anyone else is going that way. I got my boy from Atlanta to Texas for $700 shared the trailer with two other horses

I got frustrated shopping for a shipper from Alpharetta to near Harrisburg and gave up. Between the cost and long delay/no promise of a load anytime soon I gave up, blew a weekend and hauled myself. Not a bad drive at all, just long. Consider it if your truck/trailer is in good shape with US Rider for piece of mind. If you can wait a few weeks folks will be headed to Capital Challenge. That will get your guy 9/10ths here making your pick up a more local haul.

I used them to ship from VA to GA, and am shipping with them next week from way south AL to VA. Very reasonable.

Trails End Equine Transport. Sale City, Georgia 229-336-2941 trailend@ bellsouth.net

I have another shipping from Woodstock GA to VA with Equine Express.

Thank you everyone, I got a quote from Fairway of $750
