Horse with UTI??

Was told in the Horse Care forums to try posting over here for more insight…

Seriously looking at a mare who sounds perfect for me in every way. Seller says she is very prone to UTI’s, but has been better since they did caslicks. I was under the impression that UTI’s were quite rare in horses and have never actually heard of a horse having one. Could this be indicative of an underlying issue or is it normal? What is treatment and how expensive are they to treat? Plan on talking to my vet, but wanted some additional input. Thank you!

Hope you get some help soon!

Urinary tract infections or uterine infections?

I know it’s possible for a horse to get a UTI, but I was under the impression it was pretty darn rare. Uterine infections are “common” because a mare’s anus is directly above her uvula, so slight conformation or seal issues invite easy infection.
