I know there are quite a few Kansas residents on COTH so sharing this information. Jackson County is close to Topeka. The Jackson County Sheriff and his office are working with K-Heart, Kansas Horse Education, Advocacy and Resource Team, to pre-approve homes for 42 horses in need (these horses were part of a criminal or civil case - horses will not be placed with anyone who intends to harbor the animals for the defendant or the owner or co-owner in the case). Only Kansas residents or 501c3 equine rescue groups in good standing can apply. Maximum of two (2) horses per applicant/facility. No kill buyers, brokers, or flippers accepted - no emails, all applications must be faxed. Applicants who meet requirements will be contacted by a representative of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office who will complete a facility inspection. Applications accepted through August 10th.
