Horses killed by africanized bees

I’ve seen this story on Facebook too. I thought it wasn’t real. I can’t imagine this scenario, it’s unreal.

Edit dammit the link didn’t work. I’ll look again and if I can find one I’ll delete. (the story is about 3 rodeo horses in TX stung to death by a swarm of killer bees)

It is very scary.

There is another thread on this topic in the Horse Care section.

Did not want you to think people were ignoring you.

In Arizona we have africanized bees and though it’s isn’t a common occurrence we certainly have had horses and other species killed by swarms. I’ve dodged swarms when riding in my arena as well as out on the trail. They definitely can take you by surprise and there’s little you can do other than hope you can duck or get somewhere they can’t access.

:astonished: Is there anyway to irradicate them from an area?

I have had hives removed but I don’t believe total eradication is feasible. Most try to save pollinators which they are.

I saw that. Abosolutely terrifying!
