I’ve never fed round bales before, but decided to put one in the large field for my two horses yesterday. The guy I bought it from keeps them all stored in his barn, and the hay looks and smells good, no mold or dampness.
My two are used to some high end hay that is shipped in from out west and have become pretty picky. The round bale was delivered yesterday and they were out with it for maybe 4 hours yesterday and again this morning and haven’t touched it. They get their normal hay in their stalls at night and for breakfast, so they’re definitely not starving but I’m wondering how long to give them before I call the guy who delivered to pick it back up!
I’m sure it’s lower quality than what they’re used to, but they’re both in great weight and I was hoping it would save me a lot of work having to fill haynets for turnout every day! So, in your experience, will they give in and start eating it or is there possibly something off about it?
