I always loved this story of Jenny the horse that takes a walk around town every day by herself since her owner became immobile.
In the days before automobiles were common, there are multiple stories about the farmer who drove his horse and cart (of some sort) to the local pub. At the end of the evening, when he was drunk to the point of not being able to walk, his friends would carry him into his cart, and the horse would take him home, completely on its own
Watching the Amish farm horses can be hilarious. They leave the horses hitched in the field for lunch and sometimes when they have gone to a different farm, you will see hitched horses heading down the road because apparently they decided it was their lunch time as well and they are going home.
