Horsetech DailyWerks HD

Curious to see what others think of this! Horsetech just released a new product, DailyWerks HD. It’s supposedly a ration balancer, joint supplement, and hoof supplement all in one. Looking at the ingredients, it looks like it could replace most (if not all) of the supplements in my horse’s SmartPak for close to the same price - maybe slightly less.

$119.95 for a 38 day supply or ~$3.16/day. Currently, I’m paying about $125 for a 28 day supply of SmartPak, or $4.46/day. SP includes Exceed 6-way, Mega Cell, and Elevate SE. $40/month savings on supplements is pretty significant.

Thoughts?

750 iu vit e really isn’t enough. Horses not on grass need more like 2iu per pound. Since you’re feeding Elevate, I assume vitamin e is important to you.

10% protein in a 140 gram serving also in no way shape or form makes this a ration balancer. 14 grams of protein against the pound and a half daily requirement is laughable.

You might want to put together a spreadsheet totalling all the ingredients in your current supplements to see how this compares.

@Simkie Thanks! The Elevate SE is more for Selenium, since the soil in my area is extremely low. But that’s good to know about the protein content. I’ll have to run it through FeedXL to see if our hay and the 2lbs of TC Senior he gets is enough to make up the difference.

It’s not a ration balance despite what they show on their website. It has their High Point Grass/mixed hay supplement in it which is a daily vitamin/mineral supplement. My mare is on the High Point currently along with their Bioflax Ultra. They’ve put those two together along with a joint supplement. I would definitely try it if my mare needed something for her joints.

I love Horsetech products and have been very happy with them. Definitely put it into FeedXL and see what it comes up with. Personally I’d choose Horsetech in a heartbeat over Smartpak.

Have you had his blood Se level tested?

If you’re only feeding 2lb TC Sr, I would change to either 2lb TC Lite, or 1lb TC 30, for appreciably more nutrients.

@JB Yes - Vet is running regular bloodwork to monitor selenium levels and has said that supplementing is still necessary. This horse choked multiple times on TC Lite, dry and completely soaked to mush, so I will never again take the chance of feeding him that particular grain. Vet recommended a textured feed, and we’re now almost 5 months since the last choke and he’s had no problem whatsoever since switching to the Senior. I’m very wary of switching to something else at this point, and the recommended 6lbs would be way too much for him in terms of managing body condition. I’m doing the best I can to balance his diet by providing a vitamin/mineral supplement, alfalfa hay for protein, and Tri-Amino. I know it’s not necessarily ideal, but something’s gotta give.

That’s great that you’re monitoring Se - too many just assume

There are ways to increase nutrition without adding calories or regular feeds. Calories can be done with sloppy hay pellets or cubes or beet pulp, for example, and you can use a “hefty” v/m supplement like High Point Grass or several from Uckele, or California Trace, or Arizona Copper Complete, with or without Tri-Amino depending on what you choose.
