Horseware Autumn Series

Curious if anyone had this new sheet from Horseware …it looks really useful …but it’s $299 :slightly_frowning_face:

I don’t own it. I took care of some horses for a bit who had them. I see no purpose. Buy a kool coat for the warmer days and a regular waterproof sheet for the colder/rainy days.

The liner makes it even more bizarre, imo. If it’s cold enough for your horse to have a 100g liner, why only on a small portion of his body? The shape also makes it a bit awkward.

Hmmmm….I’m curious about it, too. However, I dislike their front disk closure, so it’s a big nope for me.

I’m so happy for this thread because I was really looking at them. My new mare runs hot, but also has a very thin coat. We live in the Canadian Prairies and I so far have only had her in a 0g rain sheet even though the temps are dipping below freezing already. Even in that she is running fairly warm.

I wondered if this new Autumn blanket might be an answer for the in-between times but my sense is it wouldn’t. Based on these initial responses I think even more it won’t be.

I am also looking at the new Lemieux “kudos” blankets… does anyone have thoughts on these:

I can come up with a justification for buying a new rug at any given time, but I cannot fathom the purpose of this sheet.

The disc closure is an absolute no go for me. Do people actually LIKE it?

Geez, if she’s running warm in a (high quality with good breathability) 0g sheet, I just can’t imagine adding MORE fill will help her be cooler?

Does she really need cover at these temps? Does she actually get cold, or do you just think she should be in something given the temps?

Maybe a cheap sheet, with a lighter shell and higher cut, would give her just a bit of cover without being too much? You might have to replace more frequently, it won’t be as durable, but it’ll won’t be as spendy as the really tough fabric options, so maybe it evens out.

If you’re looking for a lightweight turnout that can be used across a wide temperature range, I recommend one of the Schneiders blankets with the Tekno-Fleece lining. I use one instead of a midweight for my mare who tends to run hot, and it’s the perfect weight for her.

Sorry, I wasn’t terribly clear with my change in thought processes there. Apparently people can’t read into my brain via half-written posts LOL

I was thinking about when the temps get to be a bit cooler but not yet really cold… that 0 to -15c range

I’m only putting her in the 0g rain sheet when it’s windy/overcast/under 10c. It’s Ponyo brand, so yes, newer.

I was looking at the horseware autumn series and considering it for below freezing (but not yet super cold) temps but sunny days when she seems to still heat up.

Here up north if the sun is shining and the wind isn’t too terrible anything warmer than -15c can feel downright balmy.

For now I’m just leaving her naked on those warmer days and only blanket for the warmest temp, not the lows which seems to be working.

:raising_hand_woman: saaaame. My initial impression of it is good mostly because I love all Horseware products. And I don’t have any hangups about the front closure.

But I’m really curious about this blanket because my horse (and I!) just moved to a climate which is a bit cooler and much less humid. Plus, he’s now out 24/7 aside from in the winter which is new for him; he previously was out as much as possible but my BO brought in with any major precipitation, etc. so he was averaging at least 12 hours a day outside. My guy is a thin-skinned TB who never grows much of a winter coat. Currently I either put on a 0g Amigo with a hood or leave him naked. He has access to hay, a fairly large shelter with a dry floor thanks to paver tiles, and has another horse out with him. But of course, I still wonder sometimes if I made the right decision.

If I were to buy this blanket, I would probably take the 100g liner insert out during the day and put it back for the cooler nights. And as the website says, the mesh panels would eliminate any concern for overheating. And if it’s warmer during the day, I would probably take it off. But how much of a hassle would it be to try to just take the liner insert in and out? I’ve never used liners before because I have multiple weighted turnouts that I have acquired over the years.

Or maybe I’ll wait to try it next year when it goes on sale
