Horseware blanket fits (and interchangeability)

Easy question first: I have a couple of Rambo neck covers, anyone know if they will attach to a Rhino?

Harder question: what is the consensus on how Rambo vs Rhino vs Amigo fit? I was told that Rambo runs big, Rhino less big, Amigo more true-to-size

I am tired of returning turnouts that don’t fit my new filly!

Initially I tried on an older Rambo Supreme, size 75. Like the fit in the neck, too long on her butt.

75 Saxon is the best fit but I think they are crap. It’s already not terribly waterproof after 1 month of wear

75 Weatherbeeta Original was huge all over (returned).

72 Weatherbeeta exclusive for Smartpak was too short and does not fit in the neck right (too gappy) (return)

75 Smartpak thinsulate turnout slightly long but fits in neck so I’m keeping.

I want to order her a Rhino - should I go with a 72?

I can’t link directly, but go here and click on the size guide:

https://www.horseware.com/na/na/product/rugs/rhino-original/

Follow their measuring instructions, INCLUDING where it says to subtract 10 cm. Then order.

I find their instructions dead on for my horses–which generally means ordering a size down from other stuff that’s sized center of chest to center of tail with no subtracting.

I now have all 3 lines, all the same size. I am hoping the hoods are interchangeable. I just ordered a cheap Amigo backup blanket in the same color as my Rambo with the intention of using the same neck piece on both.

Rambos used to run bigger, but they seem to run the same as the others now.

I use Rambo Supremes on my mare even though she’s fairly tiny and sort of drowns in them. The first one I bought, in 2008, was a size 72 and fit her well other than hanging down too long. Now a 72 is too small, and a 75 is slightly big, but that’s OK since the barn layers blankets. The hanging down too long has never been a problem.

A 75 Amigo is usually a bit small on her though the length is better. A 78 doesn’t fit at all.

Not sure about the neck cover interchangeability, though…

One of my mares wears a 66" Amigo fly sheet, but a 66" Rambo Plus was too small. A 69" Rambo Supreme is a little big, but not too much. She is a pony, so YMMV with a larger horse.

That’s what I’ve also been thinking about - that the older Rambo I already had that I tried on her is probably close to 10 years old now so who knows if that fit is a reliable indicator.

Also remembered that I have not tried that Rambo on her since July, so maybe it will fit now… I have an insane # of turn-outs in sizes 75-78 and she’s just coming 4, so I really hate to buy more that I suspect may not fit her after this year anyway. Her current “back-up” turnout is a truly ancient Horseware turn-out whose size is no longer legible. So old that it’s just labeled Horseware.

Was looking at buying a cheap Amigo for a different pony who fits a 66 Rambo perfectly, so was trying to decide if I should get him a 66 or 69. I hate that the sizing changes by model, not just manufacturer - makes me crazy.

A 72 inch Rhino or Rambo does sound appropriate; not sure about the neck covers though.

After all this drama, I used a Dover coupon to do some xmas shopping and ordered a Rider’s Supreme in 74. FINGERS CROSSED.

Really just want her to grow into her big brothers’ hand-me-downs already

That may work quite well actually. I’ve had good luck with RI blankets too.

Not all rambo neck rugs are interchangeable. BTDT and have given away those that did not fit my rugs.

So always buy the neck rug with the rug when you buy. The liners have always been, IME, interchangeable. But those neck rugs, well, I’ve given away several that did not work with the rugs I already had.

I feel like every 5 seconds they change HOW the neck rugs attached. First zippers. Then two huge velcro-on-velcro pieces, then 4 little velcro to square ring attachments… so there’s no particular guarantee that they’ll interchange. Best bet is to buy the rug and its matching hood at the same time if you plan to use them together.

As far as neck covers:
The supreme and optimo neck covers are interchangeable, big wide velcro (also some weatherbeetas have this attachment) but do not work on the other rambo/rhino/amigo blankets
All the others use the smaller velcro tabs and are interchangeable.
