Horseware Competition Jacket- Thoughts?

My out-of-a-clearance-bin competition coat that I’ve used for the SJ phase for the past 2 years has finally given out. Plus, my arms are too long. I’ve been looking at the Horseware Competition Jacket because their Pomegranate colour is beautiful and matches my XC colors (wine red/Burgundy and black). I was wondering if anyone has any thoughts/opinions on it? How does it fit? etc.

I think that’s the one I ordered, rhen promptly returned because the fabric made a loud swish-y noise. I got the Kerrits Competitor Koat instead, which I was happy with. I have slightly broader shoulders and small waist. I had to have the sleeve shortened since I’m petite, so it might work for you.

They run small through the torso but arm length is good - definitely order up a size! Fabric isn’t very breathable…I have the AS Motionlite coat as well and that one is definitely more comfortable

Fits a bit small - I ordered my usual size and I don’t think it looks too, too small - but I wouldn’t want it any smaller. I wish I had ordered a size up to compare. I think it’s a nice coat for the money, but it is a noisy fabric. Feels slightly water repellent, has a smidge of stretch, very lightweight. I also have the MotionLite, that is definitely a nicer coat, but also much more spendy.

Economic jackets like this are either hit or miss. If they fit your body type well, they look great for the price and are very serviceable. If they do not fit well, they look terrible. Make sure you get it from an online shop that has free returns and get it in a couple sizes to try and return. Or, go to a brick and mortar location where you can try before you buy. I got the Kerrits Competitor Koat on clearance when I was deciding how seriously I wanted to show. It served me well and I sold it the next season for what I paid for it. Then got a hi-end brand jacket from Germany for a steal.

I’m going to my local Dover to see if they have it and try on some other coats to find my size (previous coat was a no tag clearance bin type thing). If I don’t like any other coats and/or they have it but not in my size I’ll order it from Smartpak and try and see. I’m 5’6 (most of my height is in my legs- my torso is on the shorter side) and 120lbs so I think that would make me a small? I have a sticklike figure - no curves here! I’ll check out the Kerrits Competitor Koat too.
