Horseware Rambo

Can someone explain to me why a 0g fill rain sheet, costs the same as my Duo Rambo, which is 2 blankets in one, with a hood?

I am currently looking at rain sheets, as all the cheapies tend to not last, and my Rambo seems to handle the awful teeth during turnout.

I just can’t understand why a Rambo Lite is $500?! When my Duo was just a bit over $500… boggles my mind!

Have you checked for the light weight Rambo at Adam’s Supply? I found they had the most reasonable prices.

Still can’t edit, but I am from Canada, so at the moment anything USD is not worth the exchange :frowning: .

Where on earth are you looking? The Rambo Original Lite Turnout, which is about the cheapest Rambo turnout sheet you’ll find, is listed on Dover’s website for $218.99. That’s a long way from $500.

Can you check eBay or some of the tack trading websites on FB? There’s some good deals to be had for pretty reasonable prices.

@see u at x, I am googling at the moment, and the lites all seem to be $500 in Canada. Which seems rather ridiculous. I’ve posted on FB hoping someone is cleaning house or something.

$218, I could/would pay… not $500. When my Duo is 100g Shell, and 300g insulator, for $500

I think this is because of Horseware’s pricing. Two of the local stores carries it, and they’ve been jacking up pricing like crazy the past two years. And retailers have a minimum MSRP that they can sell at so their hands are tied.

Your best bet is to find a retailer that still has stock from last year or the year before. I’ve always found Wilton tack to have the best pricing on Horseware blankets.

Where are you looking?
Apple has the 0g for $295 to $390, depending whether you want leg arches or not, and Bahr’s is $285 to $380 for same.

Will check there again, thank you. The Ridges told me $380… I might just be better to wait.

Check Wilton too…they will also price match.

Baker makes a really nice, durable rain sheet too.

Baker the brand, or bakers the store?

I just want something that IS durable, and will last more than ONE year of use. I find rain sheets just die, and no longer last.

$295

One of the stores in my area that carries Horseware boards at my barn so pretty much the whole barn is clothed in Horseware. Other than the Rambo Protector fly sheet, all of my other blankets are the Amigo 1200D. I found them to fit really well, and they last quite impressively, especially for a gelding in group turnout. He is pretty good on his blankets, but his friends certainly aren’t! The prices on those are getting to be a bit ridiculous too, so I’ve always bought my blankets out of season when they go on sale. Luckily, my guy wears an 84" so there’s usually a few left at the end of the season!

I seasonally board out, so in the winter I unfortunately don’t have much say when it comes to his turn out buddies. My horse is the lowest of the group, does not defend himself, but can run pretty good to get away.

Last year I lost 4 blankets in 4 days. So decided to buy my Rambo Duo, because it would last and was worth it since I lost 4 decent blankets in such a short period of time.

My horse doesn’t ruin his blankets at all, last year was the first year I’ve gone through this experience. I always mention how low in the pack my horse is, but clearly there are just nasty horses no matter what.

I have the Horseware Rhino, that just ripped yesterday. I have an Amigo Rain Sheet, although no longer repellent but will do the job. I will wait for blankets to go on sale. Both of those blankets don’t seem to be water proof and are not old, so I don’t want to waste my money on another rain sheet that won’t last.

I tried 2 Bucas’ last year, thought they were a great price, both ripped, 2 out of the 4. Bucas didn’t even stand behind them, and just said my loss. They were not even 60 days old, and one was worn for all of 48 hours.

I’d rather purchase a blanket with a company that stands behind their product going forward.

If your current blankets aren’t waterproof, you can spray them with a product called Camp Dry. I found it at Dick’s Sporting Goods store near the boots/shoes. Just make sure the blankets are clean before you spray it on. Last time I used Camp Dry, it took about 1.5 cans so if you have 2 blankets to spray, get 3 cans.

Baker the brand. I have one, its the only non Rambo/Horseware I have and it’s pretty decent!

I know someone who puts a heavy, plastic mesh flysheet over her horses blankets so they get ripped instead of the expensive turnout.

Are you finding your horse is wet under the Rhino? My little self destructive to his rainsheets beastie got two years out of a Rhino (full time wear from fall to spring as I put various quilts underneath for warmth). It’s still waterproof, except for some holes and I am debating having it repaired. My gentleman is on fall/winter/spring season number five with his Rhino and he was perfectly dry after 48 horse of drenching rain (except for the two holes I hadn’t repaired). I was expecting to have to replace it this season, but after that rain I opted to patch the holes instead.

My Rambo is on season one, and I absolutely love it, considering the beating it’s taking, he hasn’t been soaked yet with that.

The Rhino I bought used off of FB, just a shell, and its not waterproof after I was told it was. I am hesitant to buy a used rain sheet as usually they are no longer water proof. I’ve sprayed my own in the past, with very little results.

At home, I don’t have to worry about his blankets at all, its the 3 months I’m boarded for that seem to be just terrible.

Me too, spraying with camp dry did not make a leaky sheet waterproof again for me.

I just would caution you that I’ve seen the Rambo sheets lose waterproofing in less than a year, just like other brands. For myself, I’d rather pay $120 for a sheet every year than take the chance of having to pay $300.

Very true, which is concerning. His Bucas Freedom is good, but wouldn’t handle the group turnout, so its waiting at home until he’s done at the boarding barn.
I have an Amigo Rainsheet that is no longer waterproof, so I’ll just try my best with that one for now.

Sad that the Rambo’s don’t last either.
