Hotel for Rolex??

getting ready to book rooms, any personal recommendations? thanks

I often stay at the Griffin Gate http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/lexky-griffin-gate-marriott-resort-and-spa/. Close to the Horse Park and nice for seeing many of the riders and has a decent restaurant/bar on premises. It is not cheap. For 2014, I’m staying here http://www.essenceofthebluegrass.com/index.htm. Also not inexpensive, but thought it might be a nice break. In the past, I usually stay in Georgetown. I find the driving less crowded and like the hotels, particularly the Country Inn and Suites or if going low cost the Microtel. If you really want to go bare bones (but clean), you might try http://www.winnerscirclemotel.com/. I haven’t stayed for a while, but it was always clean and very inexpensive.

My mom and I stayed at Fairfield Inn & Suites in Georgetown last year. Originally we booked the Mircotel, but then we were able to get the Fairfield on points, so it was “free”.

Fairfield Inn was about 10 minutes away from the horse park. Very very convenient.

I originally used this to compare prices/reviews - http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotels-g39440-Georgetown_Kentucky-Hotels.html

I usually stayed at Georgetown when I competed, really close but not as congested with horse show traffic, more closeby dining choices and a Wally World with groceries (and a liquor store, just over the city limit line, GTown itself is dry). Those places are right on 75, most on Darby Lane IIRC, and usually very reasonable if not under average.

Lately I go down to spectate sometimes and stay farther down 75 at Man O War, 12 EZ freeway minutes from KHP. Huge regional outdoor mall, Hamburg Place, many dining and shopping choices. Little more expensive but great if you are bringing non horsey folk with you, most major hotel chains have their mid to upscale properties there.

Lex will let you find exactly what you need IF you don’t wait too long.

I’ve gone the cheap route and found the conditions passable with a few “ick” moments (not inside the room, thankfully). A nice middle of the road choice is the Hampton Inn near the airport, we’ve stayed there 2 years now. It’s pretty new.

I keep wondering who’s going to notice this Airbnb room rental for Rolex. Super cheap at around $50/night, and you’d have access to a kitchen so you’d probably save money on eating out. No pets and no smoking.

I’m pretty spoiled, I guess. I have a friend who lives 10 minutes from the horse park, so when I do Rolex, I just stay with her.

Am I missing something? 5 of the marriott properties are ALREADY sold out?

If there are people holding room blocks, including the rolex folks with their packages, they’re gonna be in for a rude surprise because I will have no problem doing a platinum override with Marriott to book the 5 rooms I’d like to have at the Resort & Spa.

A friend is looking for a hotel…anyone know who still has rooms?

I just got a hampton inn last week. We go the “cheaper the better” route. Saves more $$$ for shopping!

We’re not dry anymore

That platinum status comes in quite handy, doesn’t it?

We always stayed in the RV park with the LQ trailer when DD was competing.

This year she and her new husband are going to spectate and will need rooms. Her new DH won tickets at the USEA convention. New DH is new to the USA, he is from Hungary.

So, is there some tailgating happening?

If places are booked, don’t forget to check out some of the other towns around lexington as well. My dad and I stayed in Berea, KY last year since something came up last minute and we weren’t able to stay w/ my grandparents, so we were scrambling to find something! The rate was super reasonable and, if I remember correctly, it was only about 25 or 30 min away (w/o any traffic)!

Wait, Tuppysmom, DD is MARRIED now?

I feel…old.

This will be the 7th year in a row that I’ve gone to Rolex, and for the past 4 years we have stayed at the Hyatt Place Lexington (just off Man O War). We will also be staying there again this year. It’s a great hotel for anyone traveling in groups - all the rooms have a pull out couch and either 2 queen beds or a king, so we’ve fit up to 6 people in a room before (we usually only have 5 though, since that’s how many can fit in my car!) The staff is extremely nice, the hotel is always clean, they have awesome amenities, free (hot!) breakfast, free wifi, and not too far from the park (plus it’s in a shopping center with a ton of food options!) The rates can be a little higher than some other hotels, but if you’re sharing with others it’s not too bad. I think this year it’s around $135 per person (5 people sharing) for Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. Plus, every year we’ve run into one (or more) Rolex riders and it’s always fun to chat with them in the elevator or over breakfast!

Highly highly highly recommended! http://lexington.place.hyatt.com/en/hotel/home.html
