What hotels are people using for the World Cup? I’m going to be there all week and I want to make sure I’m somewhere good…
I try to stay where I can walk to the Thomas and Mac! St Tropez Suites, Econolodge?? I still am trying to decide?? 
Mr g likes to play poker at certain casinos so I think of him too?
in 2007, I stayed at the Imperial Palace, and had a horrible stay.
This year, I am taking my hubby with me and we are staying @ the MGM Grand!! I’ve heard lots of good things about them.
I’ve been reading and asking questions on Trip Advisor.

From what I have read on the forums, Las Vegas is hurting for visitors and prices on hotel rooms are coming down.
I live in Las Vegas and yes the town is hurting for visitors. There are several hotels within walking distance to the Thomas and Mack. We also have what we call “weekly’s” you pay by the week, it’s a basic one bedroom apartment. You would have to provide your own linen and what not. It’s bare bones! But for only $200 a week could be worth it. Just a few off the top of my head for hotels, Hard Rock, Alexis Park, St. Tropez, MGM Grand (a longer walk) in the immediate area. I hope that helped a little bit. 
You can find deals all over the strip and some of the off the strip hotels. Just depends on if you will have a car. It may not seem like it’s a far walk at first thought but once you’re walking it’s really far, not nearly as close as you thought it was :yes:
Last time we were there, two years ago, George Morris sat down at the booth next to mine. So that was a kick for me. It was at Luxor. Las Vegas will be offering great deals as the date gets closer.
I went in 2007 and stayed at the MGM Signature. I would stay there again if I were lucky enough to go this year, which I am not.
There was a shuttle bus in 2007 that made getting to and from the Thomas And Mack Center very easy.

well I’ve been to Vegas 18 times LOL, so I’ve stayed pretty much everywhere there is to stay…
My favorites have been the MGM, the Mirage, Bellagio (expensive though!) and Treasure Island

I’m assuming traffic will be bad and walking will be faster? Was this true last time?
It’s nice to hear that there are a few hotels within walking distance… I’ve been looking at maps and nothing looked very close.
I’m going to start looking at room rates soon.

So, what are names of some of the “weeklys” - are they just bare-bones or are they dumps or what???
Hmm… the only one I would call within “walking distance” would be the Hard Rock. Also, it isn’t really an area that you would want to be walking around in. Campus itself is safe, but the rest is honestly not all that fun to walk around. It can be a little bit like playing frogger getting across the streets.
If you have a car, the traffic really isn’t that bad at all. Everything is very easy to navigate. Don’t rule out the strip hotels just because of that. Not to mention there is also a bus line that goes directly from the intersection of Tropicana/Las Vegas blvd to the Thomas and Mack.
Treasure Island is running some great specials right now, and I’m sure the rest of them are as well.
The first two WC trips (2000 & 2005), we stayed at the San Remo,…now the “Hooter’s Hotel”. :rolleyes: Needless to say, we relocated for 2007.
Since I was tired of reeking of smoke from walking through the big casino lobbies to get to my room, I decided to check out non-gaming hotels. We stayed at the Hilton Vacation Suites on the Strip, which is up by Rio and Fremont street on the north side of the strip. LOVED IT! No noise, nice pool, cute little poolside bar/restaurant, nice convenience store and workout room in the lobby. Room had a king sized bed, a mini-fridge, microwave, coffee maker and all the utensils one could want. It was easily as inexpensive as any of the other hotels, and no smoke and slot noise.
As a result, we also had to rent a car. I highly recommend this, too. You’re not dependant on the shuttle buses or cabs, or shank’s mare. We will probably repeat both car and hotel on this trip. :yes:
I stayed at the Desert Rose the last time i was there in Sept. Nice little place, its actually one of those time share places (but no time share stuff was presented to me, I didnt even know until i turned the TV on and its default channel is the time share channel). Full kitchen, closets, bedroom and separate living area. I think plane tickets for 2 round trip to rochester and back plus a week hotel was about $1500, but that was probably off season? Also, its just off the strip in the same parking lot as the tropicana and hooters (across the street from MGM)- oh did I mention they have free wine/beer almost nightly?
We are staying at the South Point, which is one of the host hotels. They have a shuttle back and forth to the T&M center. Plus during this time there will also be the Arabian Breeders World Cup at the hotel. I hear the shopping at this event is great! My friend and I are not into gambling and really could care less if we even make it to the Strip. But this hotel has plenty of restaurants, bars and a spa. What else does a girl need?
A whole group of my friends and I are going, and we’re going to stay at the MGM Grand also.
I’m really looking forward to it!
the first time I went, we stayed at the MGM Grand and walked back and forth to the T&M. It took us about 30 minutes each way. Some may not like that, but we’re fit found it an easy walk, there’s a sidewalk all the way and not scary at all. (It was also a great way to work off all the food we ate while there! Emeril’s, etc!!) When we had to be returning after dark we did take a cab.
when I checked MGM for this year’s trip, the rates were way higher than last time. Sorry, not willing to pay $250 for a hotel room. So we reserved at what used to be San Remo and now is Hooter’s. Much as I disagree with the entire Hooter’s business plan, during the week the rooms are only $79, so I’ll get over it. I used to sleep on a cot in a tent when I did endurance riding - this can’t be worse than that. 
We are not gamblers either, and spent much time just walking up and down the strip. Even tho most of the hotels are ‘on the strip;’ - the strip itself is so long that sometimes you are just forced to take cabs.
We rented a car to do a day trip to the Hoover Dam (really recommend that!) and then kept the car (parking was free at MGM) and used that to go back and forth when needed at that point.
But otherwise, we would not have rented a car - I would NOT want to drive on the strip - and I drive to downtown Houston every day for work!:lol:
I do hope the vendor’s area is better than when we went last - I had saved up money to buy stuff, but found very little ‘practical’ stuff like tack and breeches for sale. It was mostly obscenely priced artwork/jewelry, etc. …stuff I was not the least interested in.
This is what I’m hoping! I thought rates would be better considering tourism is down.
I think the rates are down from when i looked last year! I am tempted by a few casinos where as last April I was not!

we stayed at treasure island at the last world cup and really had a great time…i got the rooms for free thru a horrible condo selling thing but we dragged our hung over butts to the condo selling thing suffered thru it and said can’t afford thanks but no thanks…it was totally worth it!
I loved in Vegas and have traveled there many many times. The best way to the get best hotel for the cheapest rate is via priceline.com
If you choose 5 star hotels on the strip up to $125 you will get Trump Towers, Wynn, 4 Seasons and sometimes the Venetian, Bellagio.
I start my bidding at $50 then keep going up $5 at a time till I get to my max. I have gotten the 4 seasons for $65 and Wynn for $55 using that method. Just remember the Trump and 4 Seasons doesn’t have a casino. If that matters to you.
However I will say you better do it now or you will not get anything. If you don’t get the rate you want go to 4 star hotels. They are all very good too. That includes MGM, Luxor, Planet Hollywood, Treasure Island, Mandalay Bay, Paris, New York NY, Mirage.
