What do we know of the temperament of Hotline and his offspring (and their dams)? He’s recently come to Canada and I’m interested in utilizing him but one of my most important characteristics that I like to create is a good brain and something relatively Ammy Friendly… any experience?
I bred to Hotline not long after he became an approved stallion, and the resulting offspring went on to a successful dressage career. He was easy to handle, with a good temperament out of a mare that could be a little opinionated. Temperament wouldn’t be a concern for me to breed to him.
My trainer has a really nice gelding by Hotline. She has not shown him much but she got her gold on him and he did well at Devon last year at GP. He is very businesslike under saddle and on the ground. As he has increased his fitness and hotness for GP he has been a little more opinionated. Not always a big fan of turn-out. My trainer believes in as much turn-out as possible so she really tries to make it work. She routinely hacks out and he is fine for that.
He has zero interest or ability to jump. He is all about dressage. My trainer likes to cross train a little bit especially when they are younger to keep things interesting and use different muscles. He made it clear that jumping was not his thing.
She hopes to make his Freestyle debut this year but who knows with Covid-19 what options there will be.
I’ve ridden two, and they both had good temperaments. Workmanlike, above, is the best description. Very focused under saddle. They seem to be late bloomers. Neither was much to look at at 4 or 5 years old.
