House fire at prominent Borzoi breeder's home on NYE, Hydes MD

There has been a house fire at the home of Silkenswift Borzoi breeder and breed historian Bonnie and Mielikki’s Hunt Borzoi breeder Renee. https://patch.com/maryland/perryhall…ounty-reported

This is where I bought my first Borzoi from that I posted about a few months ago. He is the most wonderful dog I have ever had and he’s only 7 months old! Luckily all of the people and dogs in the house did survive. Unfortunately a lot of dog bedding, crates, etc were destroyed in the fire as was many irreplaceable pieces of Borzoi artwork and historical data :frowning:

Link to videos where you can see the fire as it’s still happening :

Watched the video she took from her car as everything was burning. :frowning: Can hear her kitty in the back seat. Hopefully a friend or two has made it through the iced roads to her tonight.

Can’t comprehend exactly where the dogs are: “Are you dogs far away from the house?” “They’re as far as we could get them.” Hopefully sheltered; she said it is 11 degrees!! They caught the dog who jumped a fence.

She has so many people stepping up to help her with the dogs. Thanks for posting the link to help her out.

:frowning: How sad. Glad everyone is safe, even if they are cold.

So sad to see this! Did everyone make it out okay?

That was a beautiful old house!

They have a boarding kennel on the property which was luckily unharmed. Many of the dogs are in the kennel or in outdoor runs. This happened on NYE. They got one kitty out but the other has most likely died in the fire :frowning:

Everyone got out okay except for one Savannah cat, presumed dead.

Luckily they are Borzoi aka Russian Wolfhounds. They are okay out in the cold, except for the elderly and the very young dogs.

Here is an update :

Bonnie Dalzell, Jim Sacklad, and Renee McCartin lost their home in a house fire on New Year’s Eve, around 10pm. the house is a total loss.

If you write a check, note the account name (Bonnie Dalzell) on the memo line.

Do not request to buy a few bags and have it delivered to her house. They are taking monetary donations that will go towards Bonnie’s feed account. When Bonnie is ready to order her next order of food, everything will be ready and paid for. By doing it this way, the food will not spoil and it helps since the storage space for it is limited.
