How are your Feiner Stern’s doing?
Anybody out there know of a Feiner Stern born in CA in 2003 out of the Holsteiner mare Hespera?
I currently own the mare and would like some input on this foal. Thanks.

Just wanted to add something from yesterday.
We were on a trail ride, Presley was perfect, except when my friends Grey gelding would get behind her, she HATED him. Once we figuired on the best place to ride, she was head down and on the buckle the whole time. Now get this, I was soooooooooooo into the gorgeous scenery I had my had rested on her wither and was just talking and looking around. I don’t know how long, but I look down and her bit was hanging out of her mouth on the left side. ??? I said whoa and leaned back, she stopped and I got off and luckily had a piece of leather to tie the bit back up. SO, that is a testiment to her kindness. :)O
Just thought I’d share.
Here’s my filly again, this is her 8th training session total. She is now off the lunge, going forward off the leg (although occasionally with a little attitude and needing help from a person on the ground - getting her forward is still the biggest challenge), and has no interest in following a lead horse. She is great with other horses in the ring. I am amazed at how balanced she is! Here is a video clip showing trot and her first real canter under saddle:

Yes, looking very good! Looks like she has beautiful gaits - just gotta get her in front of the leg (but you know that). Keep up the great work!!! You’re gonna have a fantastic mare!
I wish I could take the credit here, but that is the trainer up on her. If I had known she was going to be this easy to start, I would have done it myself, but all signs pointed to her being a VERY difficult and potentially dangerous horse to start, so I opted for a professional, even though I really, really wanted to be the first one up on her.
I will say though, how much FUN it is to have a horse at a nice fancy stable again (I’ve had my horses at home for years now and had to give up the fancy amenities, although at least I have a nice arena). It is even MORE fun to be able to just show up, watch her work out from the beautiful viewing area, lavish her with attention and treats after she is done, and go home with a huge smile on my face. At home it was constantly “NO TESSA!” “STOP IT!” “BAD GIRL” “STOP KICKING MY STALLS!” “DARNIT TESSA, YOU BROKE THE FENCE AGAIN!!” “DON’T YOU BITE ME, YOU LITTLE…” Well, you get the idea.
Just thou
Look at the knees on that boy! He’s gonna be a big boy.
Tessa’s been having some “objections” to her training. She came into heat and became a total terror for about a week - rearing, trying to rub the trainer off on walls, kicking out. Back to having to have a ground person with a lunge whip to help keep her going forward. She was also a nightmare in her stall too - kicking the walls - even kicked the auto waterer off the wall and flooded the barn!
She’s steadily improving now and we have her on Mare Magic. She only tried to rear once last week (and these are little rears, not big scary ones), and she is back to not needing a ground person again. On Saturday she was actually very nicely forward. She’s being introduced to trot poles which she likes and keeps her interested in her work.
She’s never going to be an easy horse and probably better suited for a professional that myself, but we’ll see how it goes. If I can swing it financially I will keep her there one more month (so a full 90 days of training) and then bring her home. I thought about just giving her the rest of the winter off and starting back with her in spring when she is 4, but I think with her personality, lightening up with her would be a bad thing. When she gets bored she starts acting out.
Yeah, I read on another forum, I think, about Tessa’s latest behavior. Sorry to hear about it, but I’m glad she’s working through it. Best of luck when you get her home. You know, I’d heard years ago that Feiner Stern’s get were…well, that they were devils. Professionals’ horses. Then I found my little guy, and the breeder said that she had heard the same thing, but that it hadn’t been her experience at all. So I bought him.
Doesn’t seem to be the experience of most of the other people who have posted in this thread, either. I dunno. I also heard that it’s only the fillies…
Either way, Tessa is beautiful and I hope she works out for you!! I look forward to hearing more about her progress.
And yes…big knees, big hocks, BIG boy! The longer it is before he figures it out, the happier I’ll be!
Sorry to hear about the problems with your FS girl! My 6 y/o homebred FS girl is doing GREAT! She has such a wonderful work ethic and always tries very hard to do what the rider asks. She has been so tolerant of teaching me to ride again, but she can also look SUPER when my trainer rides her. She has started doing baby half-steps with her on occasion - my mare thinks it is fun!
Wow this tread is almost a year old now… are any of Feiner Stern’s foals in competition?
For that matter what about Feinbrand’s foal crop? I realize Feinbrand’s foal crop here in the US was small, and the oldest are only now four, but are any competing anywhere? We have a 2003 Feinbrand filly, whom we will not be competing. Who ever bumped this thread now has me wondering what people are doing with the offspring of either stallion.
Yes, My boy “Fly Me Home” and another FS gelding “Folk Lore” are both eventing and doing very, very well. I took mine in his first hunt today and he was high as a kite! Can’t wait for the 2008 competition season to start.
.
So
The picture shows that he is going to grow a lot more; he’s got substantial knees and hocks. I like his angles (from what I can tell from the photo) and his neck set.
God forbid he ever find out how substantial he is! :uhoh:
Hey Ya’ll,
Just wanted to bump our thread, so we can check in and see how everyone’s FS’s are doing.
Here is Fly Me Home, my 2000 gelding competing last weekend at Morven Horse Trials. He is such a great boy and always willing to grow and learn and put up with me. He has really grown into jumping and this year finally feels strong, fast and confident.
How are your youngsters doing?
Hi everyone,
I bred a 03 Feiner Stern colt out of a OLB MMB TB Mare named Sue Loves Gold. My close friend owned the mare and I paid for the stallion fees and we split the cost of the foal care. We raised the colt until about 1 and when it came time to sell him things fell apart and I ended up selling my share to my friend (we no longer talk). Anyway, long story short, my friend sold him at about 2 years old I think. He’s a BIG chestnut, 3 high white socks, blaze… His name at the time was Feinest Gold. If anyone knows where he might I would love to hear how he’s doing!! He was my baby and I’m so curious to find out how he is. I have attached some pics of him. The first two he is 1 year, the last pic he is 5mths.

Sorry…he is a pretty boy. My girl has that same “eye/head”. MUST be from FS.

Thanks! I know it’s a long shot finding him, but I thought I’d at least give it a try…
