How are your Feiner Stern's doing?
Hi everyone,

I bred a 03 Feiner Stern colt out of a OLB MMB TB Mare named Sue Loves Gold. My close friend owned the mare and I paid for the stallion fees and we split the cost of the foal care. We raised the colt until about 1 and when it came time to sell him things fell apart and I ended up selling my share to my friend (we no longer talk). Anyway, long story short, my friend sold him at about 2 years old I think. He’s a BIG chestnut, 3 high white socks, blaze… His name at the time was Feinest Gold. If anyone knows where he might I would love to hear how he’s doing!! He was my baby and I’m so curious to find out how he is. I have attached some pics of him. The first two he is 1 year, the last pic he is 5mths.
The USDF database shows Feinest Gold as owned by Katrina Graham of Jefferson MD. I have no idea how current that is - some horses get sold on and their datasheet is not updated with USDF, or the horse is (very unfortunately) given a new name and number in the USDF database.

Hope that gives you a starting point in tracking down your boy.

Good luck finding him! He’s definitely a handsome fellow.

Thank you for looking into that, but I checked that database already. K Graham was the friend of mine that sold him as a two year old… So whoever purchased him hasn’t updated his papers… Or as you said they could have changed his name and he was given a new number. He was microchipped by the GOV at his foal inspection… maybe I should go in that direction……

Oh, and to speak about FS foals in general… he was a great baby. VERY fast learner, loved people, and he really liked to work once he knew he was out of the field and something was expected of him. He had a huge engine and my guess is that he’s a better jumper than dressage horse.

I recently purchased a FS filly that is actually small (compared to other comments), 15.3. I was told she was VERY easy to start last year (the trainer said “the easiest, most low key start” she has ever had). When I purchased her, I sent her to my young horse trainer just to see how she would be coming back, she said she is “lovely” under saddle.

Evidently though, she does have a quirky stall trick…when she comes in and the bedding has been perfectly arranged in the stall, she starts from the left side to the right and “shuffles” all of the bedding to the back of her stall, once this is complete she is content to eat. They laugh about her antics and show everyone that comes (of course you can’t make a big deal out of it or she will stop until she thinks no one is watching, then she will start again). I guess I will save a bundle on bedding with her?! I am looking forward to riding her, she will be going to the Too Hot to Trot breed show this month in hand (to see how she is at shows) then in June she will most likely go in the Materiale classes. My thought is that she will come home after that and I will ride her going forward.

Feiner Stern was imported by Heike in what, 2000? Or was it 2001? Lots of people bred to him in those early years. So, does this mean that they are basically doing nothing in competition? Or, that for some quirky reason the majority of people with Feiner Stern babies either don’t read or don’t post on COTH ?

I have two. One was “sold” as a late 2 year old to a lady who wanted to breed her. She bred her at three and never started her under saddle. I got her back and she is now going very well under saddle, but hasn’t yet been shown (Cobbler’s kids).

The other is just coming 4 and is now 30 days under saddle. See pic below taken of her last weekend. I am very excited about this girl. She is out of a Diamont/Darwin/Marconi mare. The pic shows her under a western saddle, but that is hardly a western trot!

You have an amazing gem there in that mare! I would buy a baby from her in a heartbeat!

I have a 6 yr old mare by him out of a Borneo (Bolero) mare. She is tall, chestnut, gorgeous, and a powerhouse mover. She broke her stifle as a baby, so isnt used for riding. She will either be bred to Rosenthal (her 1/2 sister had a Rosenthal filly be top 3 yr old GOV last year), or Quaterback. We though we had to go ET with her because of the stifle, but my farrier feels she can carry a foal to term herself.

Here’s the other FS filly, out of a Waldhorn/Grunewald/Ehrenschild mare.

Hessy - I hope you track down the filly. She is GORGEOUS. Incidentally, my boy is officially registered as “Feingold” but I had an old boyfriend by that name…so had to change the horse’s name .

Cartier - yes, my gelding Fly Me Home is a 2000 baby and he has been competing for the last four years. I have posted about him previously (see above). Our 2007 eventing competition year concluded like this:

2007 Region II Reserve Open Training Champion
2007 Maryland Reserve Senior Training Rider (on Fly Me Home)
2007 Top 20 American Eventing Championships (jumped double clear, but our dressage was lack lustre on the day)
Top Five in 75% of 2007 Training competitions we entered (excl Nationals) - mention this to indicate how consistent his performance and soundness has been.

He went clear on our 1st Prelim cross country last November, but I have started this Spring a little slow, and will likely spend the year focussing on our overall learning and conditioning. We spent this last winter addressing ulcers or EPSM (no idea which as he outright refused to have any scope go up his nose even while drugged) but he has gained back all his weight and now looks terrific.

Incidentally I took him fox hunting at the end of last year and he was a complete nut case - he will not be doing this ever again! I was also advised to gallop him with another horse to improve his speed, and he went out of his mind. However he did get significantly faster and I think the fox hunting made him even bolder (we did not need this!). He also happens to be very jealous for attention - whether another horse, dog, or cat he gets a little nutty! Sheath cleaning, fly spray and hoof polish is absolutely out of the question!

Feiner Stern’s are awesome! I hope you are all enjoying your’s as I am mine.

There’s a recent dressage and jumping video at my link below which shows the almost standard FS gates and scope. My riding is far inferior to his talents…just as warning :o.

Thank you!! But I’ve just about given up all hope… I’ve been looking for about two years now… Anyone know if his GOV microchip can track him down somehow?

All the office is going to be able to tell you is the last recorded owner. If the new owner never sent in a transfer of ownership, they aren’t going to be able to help you.

Checking in…

My '04 filly Feinesse was in full training from October -January, off for a couple of months (where she grew another inch), and has been back in full training since March. She is going in her first show next month - the Beaujolais - and will be shown by the trainer in hand and in Training Level and the FEI 4 year old class.

And my 7 y/o homebred Feiner Stern mare is doing just great. She spent her first two years under saddle as a hunter, did some successful showing in local shows (incl. Championships and very good ribbons in very large classes), but is now back in a dressage program and teaching me to ride again. We were thinking about showing her some this year, but have decided to focus on my other horse instead, so she gets to continue packing me around the ring at the barn.

Hessy35, is the same horse by chance that you were talking about?
