Fein and Dandee
I have a now 7 year old F.S. baby (2002 baby). Dandee is only half hanovarian. His other half is QH (Dee’s Red Bar), so he’s registered under the American Warmblood Association. He’s got Feiner Stern’s eye, a better neck than his sire, but has F.S. withers-shoulder and croup. I have had some stifle issues with him but as he’s getting stronger it’s becoming more and more of the past. I would post a photo of him but I can’t figure out how to upload or paste images on the threads.
He doesn’t have a big floaty trot, but has a great walk, and big canter. It’s what you would expect for a half breed, but for the level that I show he will do better than most! I’ve not shown him yet at my regional USDF dressage shows but I might this year. He’s not quite ready, as I’ve been going slow with him, but he’s close… and he’s very smart so I could see him being ready by spring. We’ll see.
He’s a fun horse, with a playful personality. He likes toys and can be so brave, he spooks rarely and if he is worried, he thinks about what it is, and most of the time moves on. He’s not hot at all. My appy is more hot than he is! And my appy doesn’t stop to think what is scaring him… he spins and runs. Dandee is very mellow and at times even lazy, but he does work hard when asked. He loves attention and will tell me if something is not right. I can feel so much on his back, too. My other horse I have a hard time feeling his hind end, but with Dandee I can always feel where each leg is.
He’s a beautiful horse, a copper bay and has a J for a star and has a stripe. He’s attractive. He’s about 16-2 (I’ve not measured him in two years) and weighs about 1350. He’s big, but thankfully not too big. I didn’t want a big horse and I didn’t want a horse too hot for my amature status-self, and I got just that- well actually I was hoping he was going to be smaller but this is as tall as I would want.
I spoil him a bit, and as a result he’s a bit posessive with me. He can be a pest at times, but in a humorous way.
I’ve taken him to a few schooling shows, and he did really well, he won several of his classes, taking high point at our local schooling series (for dressage). He’s fun to take to shows, he’s very relaxed and takes on new environments with a grain of salt.
We still have a lot of work a head, but I always can’t wait to ride him.
He’s not for sale, nor will he ever be. I wish I could clone this horse… and I know many people feel the same way about their Feiner Stern baby. I’m just greatful to have had the opportunity to own such a fun horse!
Thanks for the thread.
