How Dangerous is Too Dangerous?

I can’t speak about the issues, but many endurance riders condition for 25 or 50 mile or more rides by riding twice a week. With the right program horses can get extremely fit the right way without being ridden daily.

Just read the “estimated read time” of all the responses, and have chosen not to. sorry.

My take on this is, are you willing to be limited to the kind of work he is happy doing? A horse like this might be fine doing arena work, but not doing trail work. (and we all know of horses who are the other way around.)

If he’s useful in one area, but just not an area you want to explore, then sell him to someone who will use him in that one area.

If he’s just a general melter-downer, I wouldn’t sell him on. Either retire into a field somewhere that is inexpensive, or put him down.

Easy for me to say, yes. Sorry.

I had a horse like this and really regret i didn’t put him down. Eventually you will be hurt maybe badly hurt. You need to talk to someone about why you think this is ok to risk your health and put other people at risk when there ae so many good horses to ride.
well I also put off getting rid of my horse who like yours was often a good well behaved horse but like yours for no known reason he could become ballastic therefore dangerous.
I’ll wear a brace the rest of my life and have chronic pain.
Make your choice now, wish I hadn’t waited.
