How did Dual Peppy end up back at Babcock Ranch? Does anyone know the details?

backstory- Dual Peppy is found nearly starved to death by some jerk in Colorado, and is rescued.

Chaos ensues as CT Babcock gets involved and wants the horse. He is the son of Jim Babcock, of Babcock Ranch. CT tries to get the horse.
Apparently he’s not universally loved (who is) and the horse is spirited away to Blue Rose Ranch and then the horse is adopted out in a super secret deal:

and then this week turns up…DP is back at the Babcock Ranch.

What? How? What’s the deal with this horse?

Babcock was NOT the one who starved Dual Peppy. How is he at fault in this?

No, he is not, and no one said that he was. I made my OP clearer, thanks.

I don’t know what his reputation is for, but he (CT) wanted the horse and the Justice for Dual Peppy folks were 100% against him getting the horse, for whatever reason. His dad ended up getting the horse back quite recently. The whole thing is just all out of sorts.

Jim is a great horseman and the horse will be taken care of. I don’t have any great interactions with CT - he is certainly not like his father.

The fact he is standing again is another issue.

ETA - also, the horse was bred by Greg Ward, not Babcock Ranch.

How did he get back? Jim bought him.
I don’t see anything wrong with it. Dual Peppy will be exceptionally cared for.

he was supposed to have been adopted into a forever home.

I read somewhere else that he was adopted, they kept him per the one year adoption contract, then sold him to Babcock. At least that was the way this person had interpreted it.

From what I understand, the horse needs to be put down. He is having some pain issues and was getting increasingly worse. I am sure Jim Babcock will have the $$$ to keep him going a bit longer but DP health is reported to be not great.

I think the concern is that Babcock Ranch has in the past mentioned that they would try to breed DP, despite that not being in the best interest of the horse. There has also been mention that they may try to clone him, and then there is concern of what will happen to DP once he has “served his purpose.”

edit to add: these are all things that I have read on the DP Facebook page from “people in the know.” Not sure if they are rumors or true concerns.

Yes - he has been reported to be standing at stud. Jim knows how to manage older stallions. If the stallion is in too much pain, they won’t get any viable semen anyways. He has 2 full brothers that have sired far better than he has, it would make no sense to clone him. And if they do - how does that affect the stallion in question?

Once he has “served his purpose” - he would be humanely euthanized. Just like the other older stallions Jim had in his direct care at the end of their lives. He kept Reminic as comfortable as possible long after his breeding career was done.

Jim may be a crook at times, but I doubt you will find someone who says he is NOT a horseman. People need to put down their torches and pitchforks.

This. In spades.

Thank you for your informed opinion, I appreciate it. I grew up long ago under the tutelage of two crooks who were fine horsemen. I understand the dichotomy. Again, thanks.

Probably the least biased piece I’ve read on this. Kudos to all involved in my opinion. It sounds like the welfare of Dual Peppg has been thought of throughout.

This paints a much more optimistic picture. I hope it is true. Honestly, if Jim Babcock and provide a better home than the woman who adopted him I’m not sure why people are so outraged.

Because everyone wants to find a villain…

Ah, well done then. Thank you for sharing that. The Justice for DP group has shades of Chromie about them and thats nothing but a cancer.

Does anyone know what is wrong with the horse that he is (allegedly?) in so much pain?

If continuing to breeding was deemed inadvisable, why wasn’t he gelded?

I think he is old and arthritic.

I don’t really have an opinion one way or another. I was simply stating what I had heard at the root cause of all the outrage.

Because people like to be outraged.
