I have never figured out how to add a color to my posts, or a row of smilies. Can you help me?
When you’re composing your post, look above the box where you enter your text. There’s an icon with an “A” underlined by a black bar. If you click on it, a drop-down menu will appear with a bunch of squares in different colors. Just click on the color box you’d like your text to be.
The menu of smilies appears to the right on the box where you enter your text, or in the drop-down menu from the smiley face icon above this box. You can access a larger selection of smiley options by clicking “more.”
A-ha! Wait a moment–I just checked your account and saw that you had the bare-bones message editor interface selected, which doesn’t give you any of these clickable options. I changed it for you, so they should now appear.
For those wondering what I’m talking about, you can adjust how the box where you enter your posts works by selecting which “message editor interface” is selected in your account.
You have three options:
Basic – just gives you a box to enter text, and if you want to bold, italicize, add a smiley, etc., you have to know the codes and type them in yourself to make it happen.
Standard – gives you all of the clickable icons to automatically add the coding to your posts. When you’re composing your message, you’ll see the weird coding for something to be bolded, or for a smiley, not the smiley itself. If you want to check how it’ll look before you post it, you can select “preview post” before you submit your reply.
Enhanced – this is a full WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) editor, like you would have if you were using a normal word processing program. You click bold, and the text looks bolded, while you’re composing your message. You add a smiley, you see the smiley.
In order to select which interface you’d like to use, click on “User CP” from the left side of the blue bar at the top of the page. Click “Edit Options” then scroll all the way down to the bottom of the list, where you’ll find the “Message Editor Interface” selections, under “Miscellaneous Options.”
If I remember correctly, for some reason, there are limitations on cutting and pasting text within the Advanced editor, so I personally use the Standard interface, but pick whichever one suits you best.
Hopefully, that answers some questions!
Thanks for asking ~ I’m sure you’re not alone!

OMG - I didn’t know about this til I read it here!! Thanks Mod 1 - you’ve given me a another way to express myself!
Terrific! I also added the information as an update to an FAQ forum questions/answer re: BB code.
We need to make a more comprehensive and user-friendly guide book of some kind down the road, so this type of info is easier to find.
But for anyone out there, please don’t be shy in asking questions about how something works–you can even PM me if you don’t want to “admit” you don’t know in a public thread!
Glad this thread has been helpful.
