How do I find my horse's tattoo from his JC name?

Hi!

My horse’s tattoo is completely worn and I was hoping to find out what his full tattoo number is. I have all of his paperwork, but unfortunately it’s not on any of it (of course  ).

I have the following information:
JC Name: Bob and Ron
Color: Bay - no markings
Sire: Dance with Ravens
Dam: Easianna
Born in NJ in 2010 so it starts with an “N”
Raced in Penn National

Any help or direction would be really appreciated!

Thank you

What do you mean by “have all his paperwork”? Do you have a copy of his JC registration? If so the number is on it.

The tattoo is the registration number, except the first two digits for the year are replaced with the letter. So if his number on his papers is 1023456 his tattoo is N23456

If you don’t have the registration paper, take multiple photos of the horse from all sides, including some close ups showing all the whorls. Take a photo or three of what is left on his upper lip. Send all the photos to the Thoroughbred Racing Protective Bureau and ask for a free tattoo search. I wouldn’t send them the name or date of birth. They will most likely be able to tell you who he is and his registration number. You can pay them $10 if you want them to provide his race record.

If you do this, you will make sure that you have the horse you think you have.
