Specifically 1st level test 1.
This is for a schooling show at a local barn which only has a short court indoors.
Do I just really scrunch everything up?
I haven’t signed up yet, but that is the test I was thinking of doing.
Hmmmm would be tight for lengthening that’s for sure
First Level Test 1 is written for and should be shown in a standard court. (I would say must be shown in a short court, but schooling shows often don’t follow the rules.)
How are they going to place the RSVP letters? They don’t exist in a short court, but many movements occur there in First 1.
I don’t think you CAN do this in the short court? I agree with yaya-- you need those letters.
I wouldn’t try it anyways, too challenging to fit in…
Okay thanks, that is what I was wondering. I think I’ll just do an eventing test instead.
Even in a short court, some of the things from the eventing tests come up very quickly. That is, the rider can’t zone out or all of a sudden, there is the letter where you have to do whatever it is. The eventing tests at the lower levels do flow a bit better in a small arena.
Last I checked the rules, training and first could be legally ridden in a short court at a rated show. That may have changed though - it pretty much almost never happens.

DR126.1.f.13a says all tests First Level and above MUST (emphasis mine) be ridden in a standard arena. Don’t know when that changed. I do remember way back when a couple of the First Level tests could be ridden in a small arena (been awhile since I rode First).
can’t see how you could do the circles and transitions at V and P in a short court.
Are they using national tests or CADORA tests? CADORA does have tests at first that are suitable for a smaller arena.
All the circles should be ridden in true sizes. All the straight lines should go letters to letters. It shouldn’t be an issue.

It is an issue when the test is written for the large court, which includes movements at letters which don’t exist in a short court.

It changed when they added canter lengthenings to First 1, and added some movements at RSV and P. It is not really possible to do First level in a short court anymore. I don’t even know how you would handle that short canter lengthening w/ the 15 meter circle!

Is this from the new test? I guess I haven’t looked at the new test.

There are 15 meter circles at V and P and the lengthenings are from V and P in either first 1 or first 2 (I want to say first 1 since to me first 2 is an easier test because it doesn’t use all the short letters).
As it is even in the large arena that short lengthening from V is extremely hard. You really have no time if you are even half a stride late on getting the lengthening.
I hate riding training in the short - can’t imagine trying to do first in it. If you do it - post video for us!
When there used to be four tests per level, you used to be able to ride it in the short courts, but for the new tests that is no longer possible

Ok well, it needs a lot of work but we did stay in the arena
