How do you carry water in your trailer?

Empty milk gallon jugs work too…

When we go to single day events I take 5 gallons per horse when it is cool out and 10 gallons per horse when it is warm/hot out. We only do low level stuff so our horses aren’t really working too hard.

I carry the water like this:
(2) 5 gallon Home Depot buckets with the lids on- great for giving baths
(2) 5 gallon gas containers with the spigots

This has worked so far for me.

I have a 25 gallon slant load corner tank and I usually carry 5-10 gallons in gas containers that are clearly marked H2O

I just use a human’s drink cooler! Fill with water, float a few bottles for myself (they stay cold in cold water in a cooler), and put in bed of truck. Flip top, and horses drink straight out of it.

I use several of the blue jugs for day rides but if I’m going to go camping I need more water. I have a 65 gal plastic tank from TSC. It has a large screw on/off opening on the top that I can use to scrub out the interior. I have a small 12 VDC electric pump that I attach so I can have pressurized water. The pump is mounted inside of a plastic tool box (thank you Steve) and has a short hose to the tank where there is a shutoff valve and a 15 foot hose at the business end that can be used for hoseing horses or filling buckets. I so love that pump. It has a power cord that has the same 7 prong plug as my truck. I just unplug the trailer qand plug in the pump and I can power spray horses. So much faster than gravity feed.

I actually went to the store and bought two of the empty water bottles that would normally go on a water dispenser for people (like a water cooler at an office). The store sold them to me at the price of the return deposit that is on them. i just set one in my muck bucket and if I need the other one, it will be stacked in amongst the other stuff i have to take. handy to carry, and cost me $10 for both of them. And, you can return them and get new ones if the tops break/they get a bit scummy![/QUOTE]

This, when I travel. Works excellent and no spillage.

I always haul my own water because I’ve had bad experiences with tainted water at my destination; sand, smelly, etc.
I bought two food grade plastic 55 gallon barrels. For a weekend camping trip, one barrel is enough but I typically take both barrels for a weekend IF it’s rustic camping with no showers so I can use my portable Zodi shower.
I purchased a water hose with a shut off valve on the end. I only have to siphon it once initially then simply turn the valve off. When I need water again, I can just turn it back on.

For day rides, I use a plastic water container I bought at Walmart. It holds about 5 gallons. It’s great for washing hands and face, watering my horse and sponging my horse off as well.

Get the slant corner upright water tanks…so convenient.

DITTO THIS. I have the same one, uses the unused corner space in the dressing room… and I put an on-demand pump underneath that runs off our marine grade extra battery (so it doesn’t rely on the truck connection), in the “stand”.

THe location of this makes it such that I can actually use it to power-wash the inside of the trailer after use if needed…and of course, to use to bathe the horses when tied to the trailer, to fill buckets and for our use when camping.

BEST thing I ever did to trick out my trailer. With your trailer set up, I’d highly suggest it

The other spot where you can install/ store things is under the gooseneck on the outside, but from there, it’s not as easy to use it to bathe, wash out the trailer, etc.

It doesn’t take any room in the corner and is fairly inexpensive at $25.

Happy Trails~
