How do you classify good and bad gaits

Ok ok… somehow the whole thing went into a direction which is OT… I tried to show gaits (trot) in different breeds in order to show that its possible for a horse to have nice gaits regardless of the breed (ok I did not say so, but I hoped people would get that…) One of my videos did show a DHH under saddle which was quite nice …

All these videos showing horses chasing around is not what you want for a dressagehorse… and sorry the last video of Pluvinel showed a very poor horse with the nose pulled to the breast. My neighbor drives DHH 4 in hand and I think she is quite successful and she never does anything like this with her horses…

And I would like to mention something else… if you look at a horse. You first want to look at it trotting free and relaxed ideally without rider. But you don’t want it it chase around. If you look at this horse. You have to get a first impression without looking at details… you just look at the horse and try to get the feel if the overall picture looks nice and balanced… Because that will show you how the horse handles his body parts. If everything looks even and balanced thats really good already and I suspect that will give the impression that the horse is a good mover. And also I think that will be a hint that the horse is going to be suitable for dressage. (and thats why I posted the Fjord horse free running and I also posted another one doing 3rd level dressage which was very nice and balanced) And I think being nice and balanced is not breed specific but horse specific

Completely agree.

Again the discussion is about gaits… I tried to discuss this a couple of months ago in order to get a feeling what the term Gaits means… but it went off rails :frowning: so maybe we could try it again…
