How do you determine tree width on Bruno Delgrange saddle?

I am Looking at a used Bruno Delgrange Athena saddle. I have read how to decipher the serial # to determine the year and the model and the flap , but nothing that says how to determine the width.
the numbers read 13 1198 , so year 2013 with serial number, then it says A17 28 , 4A3M
The A standing for Athena, the 17 saddle size, what does the 28 mean is that tree width? 4A3M is the flap I assume, does the m at the end stand for medium tree?
Thank you

I emailed Delgrange the vin number and emailed me back that it is their standard tree. So I guess there is no way from the numbers to determine tree size. I have the saddle now, hoping it fits my horse tonight. Will be replacing Tad Coffin that the tree broke in the middle of my ride, very lightly used , strange to have the tree crack across the seat .

I’m so glad you brought this up because I have been wondering the same thing as I am browsing used BDs. From what I understand M on the stamp denotes med / med wide tree. (Delgrange tends to run generous in tree sizes). W is for wide. But some are stamped with a number in that spot instead of a letter—I’ve seen 27, 28, and 29. I believe that has to do with tree size but not positive—hoping someone on here more knowledgeable than me can confirm or refute that. If correct I am also wondering which of those numbers corresponds to a medium tree.

I have had this saddle for 2 days now . It fits my tbred , who is a medium tree in most saddle . The saddle is amazingly comfortably and feels very well balanced.

So glad it worked for you! They are really lovely saddles.

I don’t know about this brand in particular, but it could be tree size in cm. That isn’t uncommon to see.

Slightly off topic, but I am also browsing used saddles and am wondering why used Delgranges seem to be much harder to find than the other French brands? Looking at a used saddle site, they currently have 97 CWDs, 40 Antares, 27 Butets, 25 Devoucouxs, 34 Voltaires and 4 Delgranges. Are there just less of them manufactured?

I have one and I don’t think the company advertises all that much, nor do they mass produce saddles. People tend to hang on to them when they have them. Mine is a 2002 PJ and that saddle will be buried with me.
