How do you find clinics?

I would love to do a despooking or confidence building clinic. I am having trouble finding them in my area. I am near Houston so I know there must be stuff available right? I have googled, asked around, but I do not board at a barn with my western discipline so it is hard. I mentioned it to my trainer and she was sort of insulted and kept asking what I would like to work on and that we could work on whatever I wanted, etc.

I know not a good reaction for a trainer to have, but I don’t want a new trainer. I am not training for anything specific or to compete. I just want to haul my horse somewhere and do something different that will benefit me on the trail.

How can I get in the loop?!

Try “bombproofing clinic texas” in your searches.

This guy came up, no idea who he is:

I would bet most of the BNCs come somewhere near Houston. They all have webpages with their clinic schedules - in your place I’d just pick a few I liked and see when they will be near you.

If you don’t know what clinician you’d like to work with, maybe you could join giddyupflix (only 12 bucks a month) and watch some DVDs from different clinicians to see which ones might suit you best.

Then, once you hook up with the clinic organizer, that person can probably tell you when similar trainers will be around. For instance, I audited a Buck Brannaman clinic once and through that organizer found out about Bryan Neubert and his clinics, and also Joe Wolter.

I’m the lone western rider at my hunter barn.

I am finding the best resource for clinics are facebook groups or tack stores.

Facebook groups and breed associations are my go to’s. If there is a specific trainer you’d like to clinic with, check their websites.

I ride OTTBs so the Facebook groups are not helping me as far as Western pleasure. I guess I need to get out there and join some QH groups. Lol

It’s mostly rodeo focused but they offer some beginner courses and other types of training as well… in Decatur TX
